Christie Hefner stepped down in 2008. Right after announcing a lot downsizing and closings. She knew where the company was going and didn’t want to be part of further cutbacks.
This got me thinking of computer magazines: Byte, PC Mag, ComputerWorld, etc. All the general PC ones are gone or “online” (which is usually a joke). The most amazing decline was Computer Shopper which peaked at 800+ large format pages just as the Internet hit. The only computer-ish magazine in the top 100 is Wired and I don’t see how that one keeps going.
OTOH, certain specialized tech magazines are still going, but most have moved online.
What gets me is that once a week I see a story that talks about something in a print magazine that I had never heard of before, usually because it is quite new.
Who is starting new print mags in this day and age?
