At Barnes & Noble today I saw a huge 2 volume slipcased Don Martin collection for $25, marked down from $150! ---

I picked that up a few months ago. Excellent bargain. Trouble was, I had to raise a shelf in my bookcase to fit it. ---

I have that set, I got it when I worked in a bookstore for something like $20 Australian. One of the best things I own. ---

I my edition about six months ago. For about $30, IIRC, including S&H. The biggest problem for me was that there were very few cartoons I hadn’t already seen. I bought MAD religiously during his heyday, and also saw reprints in the various Mad magazine anthologies. But it was great to see them all. ---

44 years ago when I was in Jr. High we had to do a career notebook. Pick something you wanted to do and explain what the job duties are. I wanted to be a cartoonist. I wrote to Don Martin with all kinds of questions and he was very kind and answered all my questions. I kept that letter for decades but it finally disappeared during one of my moves. I have always had a soft spot for him in my heart. A simple kindness like that stays with you your whole life. ---
