Any Egyptologists or Wannabes?

The Tomb-Builders of the Pharaohs is one of my favorite books

I’m always irritated by the pandering on the cable channels. Egypt was fascinating enough without having to work in bogus mystical angles. “The pyramids… tombs of megalithic megalomaniac pharoahs, or interstellar Stuckeys?” I love the hypothesis that beings from Aldeberan dropped by and rather than teach the natives how to cure cancer or grow vegetables without soil decided what they really needed to know was how to stack up massive piles of rock.

Pretty much all archaeologists are fun party people. When you spend weeks or months in the field you drink, alot, and you smoke. Also, in the field, random couplings are very common.

Archaeologists generally don’t define themselves by the area of the world they study, but rather the specific things they study (lithics, ceramics, settlement patterns, land usage etc.). I had one person trying to pull me to lithics and another trying to get me interested in ceramics. There is no “un-glamorous” field of study, just what interests you.
