That must have been the very early days of Craigslist, before it was overrun by scams. I tried to sell a car on Craigslist a few years ago. I got four inquiries and they were all scams. Two of them were even exact copies, down to the same typos. In the military, stationed overseas, buying it for their dad, they’ll send me a check for my asking price plus shipping, and I wire the payment to the shipping company. I’m done trying to sell cars myself.
Nope. About three years ago, or just as Covid was really taking hold. Yeah, about 3 years ago now that I think about it.
C’mon. Nobody would Scam with that car! (It is a GREAT fucking car, if you are into that kind of thing)

How bad Craigslist is or isn’t is very, very regional.
I did quite well and completely honestly with it in suburban St. Louis MO then 3 months later had a completely different and utterly scam-infested low-life experience in suburban Ft. Lauderdale FL. Selling the same sorts of goods in the same price range.
This was a few years ago now, so I can’t speak to how St. Louis or Ft Lauderdale Craigslist has changed since. But I bet there’s still a significant difference in relative scamminess between the two locations.
