Check back and let us know, Infovore!
I think calisthenics are the most boring unmotivating form of exercise I can imagine. Double-plus-so if you’re doing them at home alone.
Today’s my first workout day! I’m excited about it and really hope I don’t embarrass myself for being a total potato. I got a checkup and my doc says I’m good to go (in fact, she encouraged it), so here’s hoping by this time next year there’ll be a lot less of me.
Atta-boy, Infovore! Give 'em hell!
Okay, so I went to my first session yesterday. The good news is, I can do it (and the bits I can’t do yet, or can’t do as much as they encourage, they give you alternatives). The folks there are very nice, and I wasn’t the only out of shape couch potato (though I think I might have been the potato-est). The less good (but still not bad) news is, it’s hard! I didn’t realize just how out of shape I am!
Still, though, I think it’s going to work out (see what I did there?) for me. It’s fun (well, as fun as treadmills, rowing, and weight lifting can be), relatively fast-paced, and they keep things moving so I didn’t get bored.
That’s really great to hear. It sounds like a good fit. Don’t view the difficulty now as the difficulty forever. Your body will quickly adapt and be better able to handle the stress of the workout. Think of all the connecting things in your body as being loose and wobbly right now. These first workouts will begin to strengthen everything up and you’ll be better able to handle the exertion of the future exercises without fighting your current wobblyness from lack of core strength.
You will likely be sore and stiff in the days after your first few workouts. Again, this is your body trying to adapt. Drink lots of water and keep moving to limit the severity of the stiffness. Light workouts can also be good at dealing with the stiffness, but discuss with your trainer.
I look forward to hearing about your progress. I think the Orange Fitness model is great for beginners and I’m interested to see how you like it.
