Any fans of the old sitcom "SOAP" out there?

“I’m Piece of Chelief Tinkler!”

asb, I’m curious about your book. What prompted you to write about the show Soap? What kind of book is it?

They have? I hope you’re not messing with me as I can’t access Netflix from work. But this is good news indeed. You do mean streaming right?

I’m not sure what you queued but it wasn’t Soap. It doesn’t show to be available on Netflix. They have a show called “A Soap” available for DVD rental.

Unless you live in another country where they might have it or something.

I’m in the U.S. and was able to add it to my queue:

Netflix - Watch TV Shows Online, Watch Movies Online?

I remember Soap in Syndication when I was a wee lad (about 6?). Anyway, I loved it! I would love to see it again after all these years.

Interestingly, Richard Mulligan was only 67 when he died. Likewise, most of the rest of the cast are still alive. I could have sworn Robert Guillaume died recently. Very happy to see I’m wrong.

OK, that’s weird. I guess I need to be signed up to the DVD service in order to see the whole library. Even though all I have is the streaming service, it will usually tell me if they have a movie I’m looking for in DVD format. (That isn’t offered in streaming.)

Yeah, I got the first disk today, it’s definitely Soap.

Wasn’t there a scene where the guys were drinking and Bob was getting drunk even though Chuck was OK?

Yeah! I would have to see it again to be sure it was real alcohol.

Gordon Jump had quite a little side business with malaprops and spoonerisms. One of his routines was about snakes and hissing pits. I can’t find a clip of the routine, but here’s a pdf of a speechhe gave where he managed to work it in.

It is also on http://www.crackle.com/c/soap

Oh, she was always my favorite! I’ve been reluctant to rewatch Soap because I’ve been afraid that I’ll discover that it hasn’t aged well.

You folks sound like you still find it funny. Is it safe?

Actually, I was surprised to see how well it aged. Maybe because I watched it in first run and knew the context of the jokes.

I remember when Chester had amnesia and suddenly remembered that his name was “Cheddar Plate.”

That link didn’t bring up the show and neither did a search of the site. Do you have to be a member first or something?

One storyline was weird in the 70s but is very 21st-cetury: Billy’s affair with his teacher. Then he broke up with her and she went crazy. At one point she showed up to the Tate house wearing a dynamite vest. They manage to get it off her and throw it into the kitchen.

Benson announces: “If anyone’s hungry, dinner is in the oven. The oven is in the swimming pool.”

Strange, I linked to season 1, episode 1. It should load automatically (it does for me, advertisment and all).

I get the same error message on Safari and Firefox:

Is anyone else getting this?

Yup.
