According to Maxis, 60% of Sims players are women, so that’s a significant majority.
I like both Sims games, Simcity 2000 on, the Zoo Tycoon games, the Creatures games, Theme hospital/park, Emergency room, You Don’t Know Jack…and Tony Hawks and the various GTA games. The last two are the only console games I’m ever interested. Except for fishing games (yet I don’t fish in RL, go figure).
I own other games that I can’t make heads or tails of without a walkthrough, like The X-Files game, Day of the Tentacle, and Amber Journeys Beyond. They’re supposedly intutitive, but not to me. How do people know where they’re supposed to go in what order? A mystery.
The next game coming out I want is Movies (well, that and the Sims 2 expansion being released in March). Sid Meier’s Pirates! and Rollercoaster Tycoon III are games I’ll probably buy too, but not for their current prices.
My best friend and I have visited many video game stores, and we’re rarely the only girls there. FTR she’s into Zoo tycoon, Petz, RPGs, Doom, Final Fantasy whateverthelatestoneis, Diablo, Hexen etc.
Dahling, come over to my house and watch me play my dark elf rogue - swashbuckler to be more precise… not only do I love gaming, but I love to play a female in a stereotypical “male” role… rrrreowr.
As I say to my husband - I wish I could be a pirate. And not dressed like those cheesy “lady pirate” halloween costumed kind of pirates - I want to be a woman, but I want to wear the big big boots! And the giant hat with the feather! And a big buckle and coat… sigh my perfect fantasy games include playing a woman playing a man.
I’m a girl, and I LOVE video games. I’m really into the Silent Hill series right now, and even asked for the new Silent Hill for Christmas. I like the Myst games, and I love the Zelda series.
Video games are awesome.
I’m 22 and I like video games but I’m not a gamer. But I’m really picky since I generally suck at playing them. It seems the only games I do well with are racing games (the only game I’ve beaten is Mario Kart 64). I have trouble with Super Mario Bros. for crying out loud.
The only consoles I own are Nintendo 64 and GameBoy Advance SP (which I just got for Christmas and love).
When I shared an apartment with 4 guys, the xbox in the living room was mine. I loved Halo, Halo 2 was a disappointment though. I never got into the earlier FFs, but I played FF-X2 and will be playing the next FF to come out. I play games off and on, I’ve never been very good at them, so I never really got into them. Running around and killing things by myself has never really appealed to me, I prefer teamwork type games. I used to play a ton of Natural Selection, but I had to cut down after not having any time.
Right now I am too busy to play except for an occasional bout of NS.
I’m a 48-year-old female and playing video games is what I do. I first saw them when my sister bought an original NES for her kids. I thought it was so cool I went out and bought one for myself the next day. Two days later I found the original Zelda and I was hooked. I like RPGs mostly; have played all of the FF games and beaten them; I like puzzle games, too. I was never good at the sidescrollers; always falling in a hole somewhere.
When I was a kid, I loved to play games of all kinds, but I could never get anyone to play with me. Now I don’t need anyone to play with me. Video games are a godsend.
16 year old female gamer, speaking. I’ve been playing videogames since I was five, when I first started with Sonic 2. From the moment I started, I was obsessed, and went on to play almost every other Sonic game on Genesis (may it rest in peace).
I still love Sonic nowadays, but I’m more into RPGs more than anything. If you’ve read any post by me about videogames, you’ll realize I have an obsession with Final Fantasy VII, but only that FF. I’ve found all the others to be average at best. I also love the Legend of Zelda Series, Starfox, Mario…pretty much anything made by Shigeru Miyamoto. Oh, yes, and Myst. I could never beat any of them without a players guide, but man, I had a good time with all of them.
I am deeply, deeply enamored of this game right now. I got it for xmas and was a little trepidatious, since it’s significantly different than the other types of games I play. But I love it.
I also got Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 for xmas, and I haven’t even played it yet. My poor Sims (of The Sims 2) are probably very lonely for me as well.
I’ve girly bits and like playing video games. I only play on console platforms – PS2, GameCube and XBox. I don’t play any PC games nor do I play any online games. I don’t like playing RPG or puzzle games, either. I love playing racing games like Mario Kart Double Dash!! and GT3. I also love playing EyeToy games with the boys.
My first love, though, would be fighting games. Street Fighter and other Capcom fighting games will always get me on the couch in front of the TV with a controller in hand. Marvel vs. Street Fighter is tons of fun. I used to kick ass at the arcade when Mortal Kombat was first released. In fact, I’ve been meaning to pick up the latest MK release but I haven’t had a chance.
I am by no means a gamer but you’ve probably figured that out by now.
I love video games. I’m worse than my husband. My fave console is PS2. Let’s see, here’s some of the games I have…
Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, & Code Veronica
Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5
Metal Gear 1, 2, & 3
Silent Hill 1, 2, & 3
Katamari Damacy
Turok: Evolution
Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2, and Legacy of Kain 2
The Getaway
LOTR: FOTR and ROTK
Oh, there’s even more, but I can’t remember it all right now…I was up till 3am playing MG 2, trying to figure out where the hell to find the AKS gun…after 2 hours of knocking out and holding up guards, I discover it’s in the warehouse the next strut over…duh.
Also, I seem to like all the bloody, violent “Guy” games. Does this make me extra weird?
I went into Best Buy last weekend to exchange RCT 2 for RCT 3 (my SIL got me the wrong version), and even though it was listed on the box for $39.99, RCT 3 rang up for only $25. I didn’t stay in the store long enough to pay attention to any signs listing the sale dates, so you might call and see if that sale is still on if you’re near a Best Buy.
Yes, there are definitely lots of female gamers. I’m a hardcore gamer. My current game list includes World of Warcraft, Half-Life 2, and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. But it is rare for me to be in a game store, since I usually know what I want and either buy online or run in and out with my purchase. I don’t browse for games. I already know what’s out there, so I know if I want it or not.
I’m definitely also a gamer, but mostly PC-games - my bf is the one who owns the PS2.
My favorite games tend to be RPGS - like:
PC:
Baldurs gate I & II + add ons
Neverwinter nights, Shadows of Undrentide & Hordes of the underdark
Icewind dale I & II + add ons
Might & Magic
And on the top of my list… Planescape Torment!
PS2:
Baldurs gate dark alliance I & II
Desert storm (my bf was amazed at how much I enjoy playing a sniper… what?)
Final Fantasy
Summoner I & II
I’ll be 33 in 19 days, am very definitely female, and am a bigger gamer than my fiance. Whom I met during my 5 years of playing EverQuest!
We were in the same guild, started getting to know each other, spent several months talking on the phone, met IRL for the first time at a RL Guild Meet we had in Vegas about 4 years ago, and knew we were really in love by the end of the weekend- whomever said love at first sight doesn’t exist doesn’t know what they’re talking about! I moved down here from Chicago 3 1/2 years ago, and we’ve been blissfully happy with each other ever since. grin
I’ve been playing games since I was a kid and my cousin worked for Atari, giving me a set of every single game they had at the time (think there was about 20 at this point) and a 2600 for Xmas.
I’m mostly a strategy/RPG/MMORPGer, never really cared for FPS games. Been playing World of Warcraft for over a year now (been playing since Alpha, a guildmate who worked for Blizzard got me, my sweetie, and a bunch of my other guildmates in), been playing an online text-based war strat game called Utopia for…geez, over 7 years now, I think, and been playing alot of Zoo Tycoon of late.
Let’s see.
One of the first PacMan players ever, but I preferred DigDug.
Loved Ataris Space Invaders.
Have just recently bought an on-line RPG…NWN.
Only played solo so far, cos I am a bit nervous about venturing into multi-player.
Hope to someday soon, after I get used to NWN, to venture into the wonderful world of Star Wars Galaxies.
Definitely a gamer here. In order of preference: MMORPG>FPS>Civilization type games and sims>Multiplayer Puzzle or Word games
I prefer Best Buy or Amazon and avoid the gaming shops like the plague. Too overrun with annoying adolescent males. The sales associates are usually very cool in those stores, but I still feel out of place and generally irritated by the other customers.
My sisters (and many of their female friends) seem to have a thing for Mario Kart in all its incarnations, especially my eldest sister who played it on the SNES, GBC, N64 and GC continuously.
