For the last few months our Iphones seem to have become almost cloned. HER missed called show up on both phones. So do mine. Any text I originate shows up on her phone, so does any text I receive. We’ve tried all the hints that we’ve found in online searches but to no avail. We are not using the Icloud feature, so that’s ruled out. Let’s hear your suggestions.

Check YOUR address card. Make sure her phone number is not included on it - same with hers.

I am an iPhone technician. It sounds as if you have handoff turned on on one or both of the phones. Go into settings\>general\>handoff and make sure it is turned off on both devices. This should solve the problem!

Oh, and for the messages, you’ll go into settings\>messages\>send & receive. Once there, you’ll want to make sure that on YOUR phone the only thing checked is YOUR number, and on HER phone only HER number.

Bingo! This solved the text problem. And it seems it might also have solved the missed call issue also! Thanks!

check under settings\>itunes and app store. i know you said you don’t use the icloud, but somewhere the same appleid must be in use. Apple’s official answer for this type of problem is everyone with a iphone, ipad, etc. should have their own appleid.

If you experience is like mine, then this problem will randomly re-occur every other month or so. (Perhaps after system updates? I never quite nailed down a specific cause.) It only went away permanently when I got an Android phone.

Now this is downright confusing. We use findmyiphone on a regular basis to keep track of each other when we forget what the hell the other half is doing. I was told that feature ONLY worked if both phones used the same appleid. I don’t want to lose this feature. Your thoughts?

No, that’s not true, but you would have to sign in with the Apple ID of the other phone in order to track it.

Set up family sharing

> **[Set up Family Sharing](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201088)**
>
> You can start a new family group and invite people to join, or you can join someone else's family group.

Then go to settings/privacy/share location
You should see your wife who you set up as family

This dies require you both have apple ids and then you can find them in find my iphone without having to log in as their apple id.
You can easily turn off location sharing when you are shopping for her Christmas present

Go to settings, messages and select send and receive. Make sure just the 1 phone number is selected for each phone. NOT the Apple ID.

If you are using your Apple ID to send and receive, and have the same ID, then you will get the same text messages. Ditto if you allow text messages to email and have the same email. I mistakenly hooked up my Apple ID and had same result - messages to and from both phones to us both, also to our (wifi-only) iPads.

You can use iMessage for just phone numbers; you should. All that means is it will use the internet and Apple’s servers to send and the message will be blue, if both source and destination (i.e. both phone numbers) are iMessage enabled on their phones. If one or other is not on iMessage, the text will show as green.

Not really sure why you would want to use Apple ID as a text destination, or source… But it seems to be a default “on”.
