Any Knitters Around Here?

That is so weird. I only hit submit once, I swear! I did click preview once too. Hmmmm…

Purrp - you like fabric???

You must come up to Dallas for a fabric spree! I know this area that has the most amazing fabric shops with dirt cheap prices and an incredible selection.

My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was a child. Knitting came easily – Just hold the yarn in your left hand like you do when you crochet and use the right-hand needle like you would use your crochet hook. It’s faster than holding the yarn in your right hand and you don’t have to drop a needle to make a stich. One thing to watch out for if you hold the yarn in the right hand – Some knitters twist the stiches and have to purl into the back loop on the return row. This style will cause no end of confusion if you try knit-purl patterns. Just make sure the front of the loop on your needle always goes to the right. If you see the front go to the left, you’ve looped the yarn the wrong way.

I don’t use flat needles. I use circular needles for everything. You can’t misplace a needle that way.

Green Bean’'s suggestion to use light colored yarn when you are learning is excellent. It’s much easier to see what you are doing.

Quilting is something I want to venture into.
See, I sew alot also and I have a stash of scrap fabric.

We have a store in Iowa City that sells fabric by the pound. Of course we have to dye it ourselves but we get so pretty chemises, cloaks and herem pants.
And tons of scrap between two houses. My friend quilts like crazy but I never feel I have enough fabric since as you can tell from the size of the blanket I am crocheting that I go overboard with size.

I can tat but I have yet to finish a work. Hard on my eyes, neck and back.

Got big needles, got light colored yarn (lots & lots of light yarn…)

Got easy patterns.

So. Any bets on whether or not I can have an afghan done by Christmas, if I start now?

Um…can I put an order in? :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, you’ll have an afghan (or seven) EASILY completed by Christmas. If you choose a simple pattern. You are going to have so much fun!

I’m sure you will be good at it. I picked it up quickly and am now doing difficult cables and other little “tricks.” I taught myself, using books and help in the shops I bought my yarn in. I have a Debbie Bliss book that was WONDERFUL for learning. It’s called “How to Knit.” It has step by step instructions and a little project to do as you learn each new thing. Terrific, clear illustrations. The only problem is that it’s kind of expensive. But maybe you can get it used at Amazon or something!

I hope you have fun. And I hope you have LOTS of storage space!
