Any Libby's Libby's Libby's canned pumpkin in your area?

Actually, I don’t know if the pumpkin advice goes both ways, but my Vet recommended it for Loose Stools with my Doggy, as well… added fibre.

Small item in the paper yesterday said there might be a shortage of pumpkins for jack o’lanterns, as well.

Fiber regulates the digestive system to keep it on an even keel, as it were. My human vet recommended Metamucil for just that reason.

Princeville, IL has a huge pumpkin cannery operation. They seasonally employ a great number of migrant workers. I’ll ask around about crop failure and the likely corresponding drop in migration population. You know, the ole cannery in the coal mine.

One Pie pumpkine (8" round) - cut it in half - scoop out the seeds/glop (string stuff) using a good icecream scoop - place cut side down in a baking dish and cover - bake @ 350 for about an hour (until fork tender thru the meat) - let cool a bit - then scoop the pumpkin from the shell (use a spoon or side of a fork) - use a hand blender to puree (or regular blender/food processor or even just an old fashioned tater masher) - good/plain pumpkin puree.

1 pumpkin = 1 can +

Add spices/other ingrediants to make whatever item you’re after.

Its about as easy as it gets.

tygre grew up in Morton…I’ll have to ask her when we both get home. I think she made reference to the pumpkin crop being down this year, but I’m not sure.

I made a from-scratch pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving one year. Made the crust, prepared the puree from a pumpkin I grew in my yard, served with actual whipped cream. I am not exaggerating: pumpkin pie made from fresh pumpkin is to other pies as a Mercedes Benz is to Toyotas. I did it just for fun and we were amazed at how good it was.

There is definitely going to be a shortage.

I couldn’t find a single can at the store the other day. My sister was trying to grow her own pumpkins, hopefully hers survived so I can snag one!

tygre reported that Morton did not have a pumpkin shortage this year; the big shortage was actually last year.

[headsmack] It figures that I would confuse two different things.

Yeah, but those are the jack-o-lantern type pumpkins, not the canning kind which are grown around Morton.
