Are there any major cities you would never move to? I’d have a hard time moving to Houston, Orlando, or Miami. I dislike the incredible sprawl and miserable weather which is common in Houston, Orlando, and Miami. I also dislike the hard religious right in Orlando. ---

Hard religious right? _Looks around in confusion_. Huh? Do tell, to what exactly are you referring? Miserable weather? Currently we have highs in the 80s, and the four hurricanes last year? Naught but a character-building exercise, my friend. For me, I don’t think I’d want to live in New York City. I would dearly love to visit one day, but it’s too damn expensive to live there. A former co-worker in our office up there spent $200k on a one bedroom apartment. You can get a very nice _house_ in my particular neck of the woods for about $50 less. ---

Well in truth I do not care for big cities, but amongst the worst are Lagos, Nigeria, hot nasty and corrupt and Rio in Brazil, lots of rich/poor tension. ---

I think they have their headquarters in central Florida. I would not want to move to New York even if it was as cheap as other cities. It’s way too noisy, has way too many people, and just an overall over-frenetic kind of atmosphere. It’s an exciting place to spend a vacation (I’d like to go back there again this year) but it’s not a place I’d want to set down roots. L.A. is another non-option–too spread out, too many tourists and celebrities. Orlando has tourists and all the Disney crap. Most places in the South would be right out, not necessarily because of culture (I can find like-minded folks anywhere), but because of climate: I hate hot weather, and enjoy a fair share of overcast days. But I think the absolute worst city to move to would be Las Vegas. It has tourists (strike one), blinding lights visible from all sections of the city flashing at all times (strike two), hot weather/is in a freaking desert (strike three), nothing fun to do that’s not related to some sort of compulsive behavior (strike four), and no major industries that are not in some way related to tourism/gambling (strike five). As a non-drinking non-gambling stick in the mud, I would feel totally left out of the Vegas scene. And what would I do for a living in Las Vegas? Deal blackjack? So not my lifelong dream. ---

The mayor (although he’s currently under indictment and has been suspended) is a Democrat. 😕 ---

You know, this would go faster if I listed cities I wouldn’t mind living in. So how about: Back home Denver Las Vegas Phoenix, Tucson, or Flagstaff (with some worries about the water supply) Portland Gee, no wonder I’m having a hard time searching for a job. I’ve sort of excluded entire states and whole regions from places I’d like to live in. When a list of possible hits include Edwards AFB, Houston, Atlanta, San Francisco, and parts of the Northeast, I might have to become a little more tolerant about moving out of the Southwest. ---

Sydney. I live here now, and despite myself I love the old tart, but I’d rather not gain the emotional attachment in the first place for this crowded, smoggy, overpriced metropolis. If there were no friends and family keeping me here, I’d probably end up in Melbourne, Perth, Auckland, or Darwin (as places I can move to without visas and such). ---

I’ve been to most major U.S. cities over the years. I’ll second the choices of Tampa and Las Vegas that have already been mentioned. My list also includes Philadelphia, Topeka, Newark, and Dallas. Wouldn’t want to live there. ---

Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, Detroit, Miami, Orlando, anywhere in Texas, Tacoma (never ever again) and Phoenix. I moved around a lot growing up and I hated it. In my 21 years of life I could never consider any of them home. It has nothing to do with the length of time I stayed, but its just that I never liked any of them. I have lived in Seattle for three weeks (after working here for two years and living in the festering turd that is Tacoma) and I feel at home. For the first time in my life. I don’t plan on moving to another city ever again. ---

I feel like I’ve spent my whole life dodging LA. Every time I go there, I end up spending hours on the freeway every day for no good reason. I’m a public transportation/walkable community enthusiast, and so LA is kind of a personal nightmare. It has none of the benefits of a city, and all the worst characteristics of unending sprawl. Knowing that, it was kind of dumb of me to major in film. ---
