Let’s compare notes Me? I had a fantistic time playing games and schmoozing with old friends - I loved Dr Demento’s presentation and got his autograph. But I didn’t go out to see any of the city until Sunday evening when some friends and I went to dinner at the seafood place in the hotel that was hosting the Furries’ convention. How about you all? ---

Not I. I used to go to ALL the AGs, but they are now too long, and too expensive. One would have to pay for all of the what is it now, 4 days? 5 days? even if you can only get the weekend off. Pity, that. ---

I understand that - this is the first one I was able to get the time off for since Vegas in 2004. But if you want to start saving for an upcoming one, 2010 is in Dearborn (they’re calling it Detroit) (and it’s a joint US/Canada effort for the 50th anniv of Mensa in North America) (forgive the blatant plug) 2011 is in Portland Oregon 2012 is in Reno 2013 is in Fort Worth if any of those cities interest you ---

When I used to go, I used to have an absolutely wonderful time. But then, that was back when I could consume alcoholic beverages! I can’t any more; they interfere with my meds. Do you know if the upcoming ones have partial rates? In recent years it’s been an all-or-nothing cost, and was just too high for 2 days. (Our local regional gathering not only offers one-day rates, we sometimes have offered partial-day rates, as in if you can only be there Saturday night, you get a half-day rate!) ---

local as in “Snowball”? yes, there are some [discounted rates available](http://www.ag2010.us.mensa.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Register4). Oh, and I did not have one drop of a hard beverage the whole time. I think I had more fun as a result. ---

I couldn’t go, but asked a friend to record the Dr. Demento speech. However, she couldn’t get in when he spoke. What did he talk about? Did anyone record it, to your knowledge? I did see some pictures of the Furries. What high-quality costumes! ---

I believe someone did record it, but I don’t know who. He talked about his 50+ years in radio - played some videos (most notably, Tom Lehrer performing “Pigeons” live for the Queen of England, Weird Al’s “White and Nerdy”, and the video from SNL made to go with “Fish Heads”) He also signed autographs and posed for pix afterwards. Highlight of his presentation (for me anyway) was - he introduced “Dead Puppies” as the Power Ballad of the novelty music world, so nearly everyone (myself included) in the room took out their cell phones, “lit” them, and waved them back and forth. I wish I’d taken a picture - I was near the front so it would have been great.
