Any newer bands making the kind of music bands like Motely Crue, Cinderella, etc today?

Ah yes, I forgot they’ve been around a long time with not a great level of success. We saw them supporting Tyketto, another great band which started out just at the beginning of grunge and are as good as it gets, it’s just that it was bad timing for the fashionability of the genre…

I always took it to be Album Oriented Rock.

I’ve always been a bit ambivalent about The Darkness. A lot of people I knew took them as a parody act and good fun when they first started in the UK and they became quite popular. Then it became clear the band were completely serious and it was a bit weird. They kind of went out of fashion in the uk then when people were a bit unclear about what they were doing…

I’d love to see Metallica to do Dayman…

I was impressed by Bonafide when I saw them.

I was never really an AC/DC fan. I can appreciate they are good but they’ve never really got me, perhaps it was the Brian Johnson, a bit fake era when I started listening to them.

I’ve also heard Airbourne and they’re ok. It strikes me that people like them because they like AC/DC, so getting more of the same, but the songs didn’t seem to be that strong. A bit like Kingdom Come being a Zepplin clone.

However, with Bonafide what you have a lead singer with a very distinctive Bon Scott type voice and he’s the lead guitarist as well, you don’t often get that level of talent. That and the songs are actually strong, so less than being a clone/copy, more like being inspired by them and writing his own stuff similar to them.

Bonafide - Hard Living Man

Any band with a frontman named Pontus Snibb is okay in my book. You’re right: Bon Scott-y with a bit of his own thing.

Fun song - thanks for sharing. You saw them and the Snibbster was playing lead? In the video they show a blended montage, but it appears the other guy (his name is not Pontus Snibb, so I see no value in remembering it ;)) with the Les Paul is playing that song’s lead.

Edit: hmm, Snowboarder Bo must be away. He will likely have a dozen or so.

If you’re looking for melodic hard rock, you can’t beat

HALESTORM:

CAN I GET AN AMEN

batsto - thoughts?

Yeah, if he’s looking for a subgenre of hair metal known as “sleaze rock”, those are the main representatives.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for music that ranges from Journey to just short of Metallica, then you can start at Work of Art and finish at Dragonforce.

Melodicrock.com is probably the best source for information on such bands, old and new. The scene really is thriving, probably better than any rock genre that’s supposedly “out”.

sorry…been away all weekend. I’m checking out some of the bands mentioned in this thread now. Bonafide is pretty good so far…though first I typed in ’ Bona Fide’ and got an entirely different band.

I’m quite aware of Halestorm, even saw them live last fall and loved it.

Listening to Jet now. So far, it’s pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

I agree the video made it look like the other guitarist was playing the solo, but it seemed to me that the Snibb was definitely the one playing most of the lead roles when I saw them live and he was barely ten feet from us. Might have been an occasional solo from the other dude, but he did seem more rhythm guitar…

melodicrock.com kinda bummed me out.

A bunch of guys, not much older than I am, still running around dressed like it was 1987. Note, not all of them but someone needs to tell Tracii Guns that the 80s really, really needs the leather chaps back.

Somebody mentioned power metal, so how about Hammerfall, from Sweden:
