I’m looking for some kind of online repository for version control.

A place that might enable me to check in/out the same code from work or home or wherever.

I know that sourceforge provides such a thing, but just to set up a project at sourceforge, there’s a lot of rigamarole involved.

Anyone know?

There are many places that offer [Subversion](http://subversion.tigris.org) hosting.

I think your best option is to use a cheap web host like [DreamHost](http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?47194) (\*referrer link alert). Subversion is included in all their plans, which start at $8 / month or something very low like that. They also have a lot of other stuff - I use them to maintain an ISP-independent e-mail address as well.

There are also companies that offer _just_ Subversion, but they generally cost more. [Google](http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=subversion+hosting&btnG=Google+Search) knows of a bunch.

Our subversion server started as a spare PC running [Ubuntu](http://www.ubuntu.com/), with [Tortoise SVN](http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/) as our client of choice.

It’s quite easy to set up, though you’d want to spend a while making sure your backup procedures are sound.
