I prefer Robot Wars myself - the English accents make it classier, somehow.
Well I prefer dark chocolate, but I’ll still eat milk chocolate
NOw what about that first match? Voltarc vs Biohazard… and that 30 second hold rule? He held him MUCH longer than 30 seconds…
sob poor Mechadon… those rolls are cool as hell though
Poor Tentoumushi
Made by a 14 year old girl though, and it was a good fight… 7 - 2 decision at the end… most fights are 9 - 0
Ooh ooh, I know! The SDMB Battlebot! I’m sure something very nifty (and very scary) would come about if we put our heads together. Whadda you say?
Well considering that they seem to cost upwards of $10,000… good luck
FREAKIN HOW MUCH NOW??? I haven’t seen any of them powered by a chevy big block yet!! We’re talking vaccuum motors and chainsaw engines… how much do small hydrolics cost?? You can get the MOST advanced 9 channel Radio Control for less then 1000 bucks.
I attended the BattleBots competition this year, and I have to say the better fights involved the middleweights. Tentoumushi was definately the crowd favorite. Great theme, great weapon concept, and reasonably effective, too. I doubt its parts cost more than a thousand bucks. Mechadon looked awesome, too. That thing probably cost in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Before its “second” fight (the first fight, its opponent wouldn’t start up), Mechadon’s controller (and, presumably, builder) climbed up on top of the thing, fully supported by its legs. The crowd went nuts. Too bad it couldn’t fight worth a damn.

Tentoumushi got ripped off in the Battle Royale, if you ask me. Another robot pinned her against the wall in the preliminary battle, and she knocked it out, but then she couldn’t free herself. She was DQ’ed as if she had lost mobility, even though it was obviously in fighting condition. She would have lost eventually, I think, but they shoulda let her progress on to the next round.

Punjar was a heavyweight 'bot that looked like it didn’t cost too much to put together, either, but was effective in fighting.
Voltarc cost $15k and Biohazard $20k according to the show. Mechadon was $14k just in parts.
Oh. My. God. Mechadon is the coolest robot…no, scratch that, the coolest thing ever. That roll move is just awesome.
Anyone else get the impression that Rammstein was afraid of Mechadon? I swear that when Mechadon rolled, Rammstein backed way the hell off, running away like a frightened child…
