This continues to be a night of surprises! Gunther vs. Riddle ended with Drew McIntyre coming out post-match and attacking Gunther. Cody vs. Dominik did _not_ go on last, and did _not_ end with an appearance from Brock Lesnar. And now we’ve got JOHN CENA. ---

Thanks for spoilerizing, y’all. I had completely forgotten about MitB and am now watching the repeat. For anybody later to the game than I, spoilers ahead. * * * Men’s ladder match: Logan Paul is growing on me. He seems to understand the balance between showmanship and athleticism. Seeing Ricochet and Santos Escobar together made me reminisce about their LU days, and I’m glad they’re at least making WWE money these days. I remember Damien Priest from RoH when he was Punishment Martinez and had an Undertaker Lite gimmick. I look at Butch as the founding father of NXT UK, but didn’t think he’d ever have mainstream appeal, but maybe I’m wrong. LA Knight was the favorite to win, but he doesn’t need titles to get over. Nakamura has somehow separated his leg parts and uses hinges to kick sideways while swinging forwards. Women’s tag match: Liv Morgan is now the Ricky Morton of women’s tag team. She cries in pain and looks like she’s being crippled when her opponent has her in a hold. Raquel Rodriguez and Ronda Rowsey have had some good matches before, and Shayna Baszler is just plain scary AF. I didn’t understand the swerve, though. It wasn’t like Rowsey hit her by mistake or anything, and it completely destroyed the momentum of the match. I guess it’s to set up a hard-hitting feud between the two at SS, but WWE seriously buried the lede. Gunther vs. Riddle: OK, I understand booking decisions are made to capitalize on the moment, and what better place for Drew McEntyre to make his comeback than a London PPV. But, I could have watched Gunther and Riddle go for at least 15 minutes and watch them bruise the fuck out of each other. In his MMA days, Riddle was targeted for his pretty boy looks, but still prevailed. Now he’s developed a Stooge Itsu style and I hate to see it cut short. Cody Rhodes vs. Dominick Mysterio w/Rhea Ripley: Reminiscent of Dusty Rhodes vs. Tully Blanchard with Baby Doll. Same “Can’t hit the girl” moments. Dom-Dom plays the pussy heel well and continues to escape from Rey’s shadow. I wonder if WWE bought all those Bud Light promos for pennies on the dollar. So what if their red-state fans hate it? WWE thrives on controversy. John Cena can somehow make audience counter-reactions work, and he put Greyson Waller over as well. Can’t wait for next season of Peacemaker. Women’s Ladder Match: Started off awkward and had some blown spots, but it got better at the end with Zalina’s “Holy Shit” flip of Zoey Stark, and Io Skye handcuffing Becky “Phoenix” Lynch and Hey Bailey Ooh Uhh to win the suitcase, setting her up for a cash-in on Asuka. (Or Rhea, but it should be Asuka) Seth vs. Finn: Another potentially high-star match cut short for storyline reasons, but dammit I want to see at least one untainted outcome. Bloodline Civil War: I thought for sure Solo was going to look at the lights, but it turned out to be Roman. He’s managed to move on from being Vince’s boy, and Paul Heyman turned him into gold. Roman really worked the crowd through little effort, inspiring them to chant “Stand up if you hate Roman!” I loved Heyman’s two cents, “You want him to take your place at the table instead of your sons?” The ending really surprised me. In the end, Roman fell victim to the Uso’s notorious double-teaming, which makes total sense. ---

The main event was pretty good. That turned out to be the Usos vs. their brother and cousin even though the show is called Money in the Bank for no real reason because there’s no money or bank involved, Otherwise, the Ricochet show was ok, but the rest pretty weak. Every match rushed, often cut short for injuries, or just lack of ability like Cody and Dumdum. LA Knight didn’t win the gimmick, probably didn’t need to, he’s probably happy with the air time he’s getting. Iyo Skye again? What do they expect to get from this push? The women’s division is log jammed at the top with tired acts and more talk than action. ---

I feel like that had to be Vince messing with the booking at the last minute. “Tag team member turns heel on their partner FOR NO REASON” is the only tag team storyline he’s known how to do for 30 years, and it’s the same thing that drove Sasha and Naomi out of the company because they refused to do that storyline when they were the champs. ---

Austin Theory has had the US title for eight months now. GUNTHER has been IC champion for over a year. Roman’s coming up on the third anniversary of his championship reign and has been on top for longer than anyone since Hulk Hogan’s first run with the belt. It’s certainly a welcome change from the days when they hot-potatoed the belts every week or two to try and get a ratings boost. ---
