Any sci-fi fans in the house? I need some recommendations

Well, I read Ilium and it was very good. On the flipside, many things were unanswered by the end of it. Now waiting for a sequel…

Eye of the World has turned to crap. I never felt that it was worth much to begin with, but it is utter crap now. Jordan needs a competent editor, to cut his verbiage down by at least 75%.

The Assassin series is good.

I really can’t recommend books in this manner, most of the books that I like are ones that I would only recommend buying. You cannot pry my Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman books away from me. It is quite dangerous to attempt to do so. With that in mind, I’d suggest looking up the old threads.

Oh, and don’t call it sci-fi. Or I’ll have to growl at you.

That’s right! It’s “scientifiction”, dammit!

I’ve recently really enjoyed Peter F. Hamilton’s The Reality Disfunction, It’s quite an easy read and has the odd semi origional idea

Speaking of Peter Hamilton, the first in his latest science fiction series is just out and, reading the reviews, it’s supposed to be excellent. It’s called Pandora’s Star and it’s been compared to the Nights Dawn trilogy…I’m waiting for it to arrive from Amazon at the moment…

I also have the latest book from Richard Morgan (Market Forces) on order, the reviews for that one are pretty good too, I’m hoping it’s on a par with his other books.

Peter Hamilton has a new book out? Thanks!

JohnT, he certainly has and since I made my last post the Amazon delivery has arrived! Damn…I already have two books on the go but I know I won’t be able to resist starting this one now

OMG, someone listened to what I said. Wow! I’m glad you liked Ilium. I too expect a sequel. Wish I had some more recommendations, but I don’t read as much as I used to.

Good Luck.

I have run across a number of people who don’t seem to remember (or were actually irritated) that Ilium (great novel, btw) was the first of a two-parter. Not only is the sequel to be expected, but on the very back cover of Ilium it says that the sequel, Olympos, will be released in the summer of 2004. So y’all won’t have to wait long, and Gozu’s wife will have something to look forward to when she’s done with Ilium.
