Using it as a makeshift bookmark to mark my place in The Satanic Bible or _The Encyclopedia of the Homosexual Lovers of King James I._ Hey, I’m not disproving or mocking the ideas in the tract - a book is a book. ---

Yeah, but if someone puts up a parody that uses Chick’s/Disney’s/whoever’s art & gets a “Cease & Desist” legal letter, then unless that someone has some money or oneriness to launch a legal defense, they’ll pretty likely just take it down. ---

I would attempt to use them “against” him to show him how he’s NOT HELPING! Trying to use those things to show people what God is, is like…Taking someone to a slaughterhouse to show how yummy steak is. Okay, not the best analogy, but…being crazy, not to mention dead wrong, is not a good way to bring people into the church…and Chick is bonkers. I dunno, the only other way I can think of is a sort of “no, this is NOT what it means to be a Christian, here’s what it really means”. The comparison would, I hope, make the person so relieved that it’s not nutsville, as so many Chick types try to make it, that they might give it a chance? ---

I’ve read Chick Tracts. I have a few that I like to re-read. I haven’t ever handed any out. My favorite is “Somebody Loves Me”. I’m personally interested in anything that will strengthen my spiritual life. Sometimes when I am feeling very bad about something, a really basic approach like the Chick Tracts use is just what I need. However, I treat the Chick Tracts the way I treat everything else these days – I take what I can use and I leave what I can’t use. Their anti-gay and anti-Catholic rants totally leave me cold. And I don’t like the idea of telling anyone that they’re going to hell unless they do everything exactly like I do. Brrr. ---

Jesus hates liars.). The son of some pastor of a crazy offshoot of protestantism “Church of Jesus”, gave it to me. Wish I knew which tract it was… but it featured a very cartoonish and typical red devil on it somewhere and showed the hell that awaits the non-believer. It did nothing for me except make me mad at the supposed Christians who gave it to me. Even at that age I recognized that it was the work of some very disturbed hypocrites trying to scare children into some failed and wrong headed dogma. God existed inside me then… that tract robbed me of him and supplanted it with the worldly devil. ---

One of the major factors that is weighed in copyright cases is how much of the original work was copied. Copying a single panel from a Chick tract and adding parody text might fall under fair use, but directly copying the art from an entire tract would almost certainly be considered a copyright violation. Of course, even if only the art from one panel were copied it would be possible for Chick to sue. I don’t think he’d win if it went to court, but the parodist might not want to have to go to court over it. ---

I might use one if someone ELSE gave me a Chick tract. Then I’d be like, “Dude, I already have one, so it’s okay. I don’t need another one.” And he’d be like, “Oh, okay then,” and he’d go away. ---
