True dat! It’s so ridiculous, especially in European soccer. I’ll sometimes see a player breaking through the defense displaying amazing ball handling skills and making a perfect pass to the boot of another player, who merely has to deflect the ball into an open net. The scorer then runs around like he just solved global warming or something, and he also gets mobbed by his teammates while the passer just humbly walks away (or joins in the mobbing of the scorer, even). Unfortunately, I don’t think that European soccer gives enough credit to the assist leaders. You always see goal-scoring stats published, but very rarely see assist stats. In hockey, on the other hand, an assist is regarded as equal to a goal in individual stats.
