# Any use a dial-around for local toll calls?

Being newly single, and newly poor, I’m looking for ways to save money. My local phone company (ATT or Ameritech, I can’t amember which), charges me 10 cents per minute for “local toll calls” which they define as anyone farther than 15 miles or in a different area code (Chicago suburbs have far too many area codes–my best friend lives 10 miles away in a diff a/c, so she is a local toll call). Anyhoo, I’m thinking of using a dial around (10-10…dial your number) which would cost 5 cents per minute, but I’m leery. Anyone else do this? Good, bad?

Sorry I can’t address your actual question, but I suggest looking for another provider of local service. Here in D.C. we have five area codes that are all local calls.

I enjoy [bigzoo.com](http://bigzoo.com)’s prepaid 4-cent-a-minute deal. During peak hours, however, you’ll spend a lot of time battling busy signals.
Also, the website appears to be down right now. But I can confirm that they still existed and were callable-through as of a couple weeks ago. If they’re not now, they got away with about ten bucks from me.
