Only fans of the game will know what I am looking for. What is an up-to-date game that closely matches the thrill of that old game? Thundering along a huge desert towards an enemy target with just one well armed tank, with beethoven playing in the background. Spotting a lone APC, zooming in, blowing it up, continuing on your long long journey to the enemy base.
Most of the game was spent travelling, finding the safest route. It wasn’t a stupid futuristic game (there were futuristic tanks in later levels but they are based on real world prototypes). It wasn’t designed to satisfy the 5 second boredom threshold that today’s games seem to be.
I NEED to get re-aquainted with the joy of playing that game.
