Just finished watching the replay of Rival, and _hot damn_ that was a great show. Small wonder they didn’t do this one WrestleMania weekend as was once planned - even the Showcase of the Immortals would have had a hard time measuring up. A few comments on things that haven’t already been mentioned; - I wonder if the girl who jumped Tyler Breeze during his intro was a plant or a legit audience member. If the latter, then it truly proves that Prince Pretty (and his fuzzy selfie stick) are as absolutely gorgeous as the song says. - The tag titles match felt like they were trying to do a Lucha Underground match, but there were just too many botches - Kalisto screwing up his jump over the ropes was a big one, and at one point Murphy rolled his legs up for a pin _before_ Sin Cara grabbed him. - As I said before, the Baron/Bull match didn’t need to be no DQ, and it barely took advantage of the stipulation anyway, but the big takeaway here is that Baron is working faster and better than he has before. This is the right direction for him - take him away from just squashing people in 30 seconds and let him get some longer, faster-paced matches in. - Finn’s body paint is pretty much the same as last time (and it’s pretty much a copyright-friendly mashup of his [Venom paint](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/c1/c9/b2/c1c9b23e3871cc07e7ed5b4081c569f9.jpg) and his [Carnage paint](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BdoywXdIUAA_mW8.jpg)), but there are some improvements I liked - the wings on his back are a nice touch, and the red highlights on his face made him look like he was bleeding as the paint started to smear and run later on. - The women’s match went exactly as I predicted except that the wrong person won. 🙂 NXT consistently puts on great women’s matches - whoever’s booking them needs to be called up immediately to produce awesome women’s matches on Raw while Hunter distracts Vince with a VHS copy of _Pumping Iron_. I imagine we’ll get the perfunctory rematch that Sasha will win, and then segue into a Sasha/Bayley feud with Becky Lynch as the wild card. - Has anyone ever actually won a title in WWE by TKO before? I’m racking my brain and I can’t think of a finish like this ever happening. I had a feeling they were going to go with a referee stoppage angle once Sami started acting concussed (and he did an _amazing_ job of selling it, BTW) but I figured it’d be a DQ or a no-contest. This match was brutal in a way we haven’t seen since Cena/Lesnar at Summerslam, and I’m surprised that they even _allowed_ that piledriver spot (Owens did protect Sami by wrapping his arm around Sami’s neck for support, so good on him). Sami is flying out of the country today for WWE’s tour of Abu Dhabi this weekend, so he’ll miss tonight’s tapings (thus allowing them to sell the injury), and we’ll have time to build to the Owens/Finn match I was hoping for (hopefully at WrestleMania - both these guys are _ready_ for prime time), and then Sami can have his rematch against one of them at _Takeover 5: A Good Day To Take Over_. (PS: I want the new “Sami and the Zayniacs” shirt. That thing takes me right back to San Diego in 1996 - I swear there were about 50 ska bands at my high school and they _all_ had logos exactly like that one.) I may have to wait until tomorrow to watch Lucha Underground. Too much awesomeness for one day. ---

Maybe when the story plays out, she’ll pull off her wig and mask and reveal herself to be Marcus Luis. ---

/Dusty: De Amerikun Dreeeeeem, Dussy Rhodes! The man of the hour, the man with the power. I am the hit-maker, the record-breaker. I got style and grace, a pretty face. I’ll make your back crack, your liver quiver. If you ain’t into this match, you’re at the wrong address. When the other wrestlers are smilin’ and jokin, The Dream be, WOO!, cookin’ and smokin’. I think my SD intro is going to be random promos throughout the years. Until it gets to be too much work. We now see that WWE has managed to salvage the unexpected negative reaction to Roman Reigns by building a frenemy relationship with he and D-Bryan. Having them work about 75% of the show together served several objectives: it showed that D-Bryan is not a patsy who’s going to be shit on booking-wise, it showed both men capable of lasting the distance, and it established RR as a cool customer who has a long fuse and a high explosive charge. It also made the Ascension look strong, as they didn’t suffer the same fate as the midcard teams. It played to the strengths of the pushed and to-be-pushed. Kane & Big Show’s meltdown at the end was kind of convenient for DB and RR’s win, but still made sense. BS cracked me up when Kane kept telling him to finish it, and he responded “What? I’m just having fun!” So by not being RAW lite, SD actually kept things interesting and gave us a reason to care about Fastlane. Here’s hoping they do more departures from the norm in the future. ---

Reading a bit into your post above, I’m thinking that you enjoyed Smackdown, which I agree with. It wasn’t the greatest wrestling show ever, but I applaud WWE for doing something a bit different, and at this point different is good. It’s a lot like the show Family Guy. Family Guy has its ups and downs (mostly downs nowadays) but every once in a while Seth will throw in a show that’s not really in the FG brand, but is ambitious nonetheless. A whole show with Brian and Stewie in a bank fault with no flashbacks? Ambitious. A full muder mystery two-parter? Ambitious. A Smackdown where most of the roster is left off, and you feature a total of 4 real matches and one is 45 min long? Ambitious. I thought it was a highly entertaining show. Kudos to WWE ---

hijack—The only thing that really makes me laugh in FG anymore is when a Seth McFarlane character starts talking to somebody like they’re an absolute idiot and says something totally out of left field that he’s trying to pass off as normal and correct. Peter does this, and so do Stan Smith and Roger from _American Dad_. Like when Francine questioned Stan on why he bought a new car when he was supposed to be returning the previous one he bought. He said, “Francine, there’s a lot of math involved. MAN math.” ---

So, as much as I avoid reading NXT spoilers, it has come to my attention that a major fan favorite made their grand return to the ring at last night’s tapings… [SPOILER] … **Ol’ Blue Pants!** She reportedly even now has her own Titantron (a montage of pictures of blue pants) and theme song (Big Cass dah-dah-dah-ing the Price Is Right theme on loop.)[/SPOILER] Can you say “future #1 contender”? ---
