> Oh I find lots of ice cream with peanut butter cups throw in and that sort of thing, but not the chocolate ice cream with swirls of peanut butter.

Licorice. It’s [gray](http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/foodbytes/ice-cream.jpg). How many gray foods are there?

My absolute all-time favorite was 31 Flavors’ Watermelon Ice (yeah, I know, not technically \*ice cream \*…so sue me!) that they had back in the mid-60s. It was only around for a couple of years. I seem to remember them trying to pass off a similar flavor a few years back, but it wasn’t the same…a sad impostor of the original, I’m afraid.

As far as “real” ice cream flavors go, my top three would be Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and any high-end vanilla.

Depends on my mood.

Mango

Rocky Road

chocolate chip, but only if it’s got the teeny little flecks, not the big chunks

strawberry, but I’m really nit-picky about it, it usually has to be expensive strawberry, not just any strawberry, or strawberry ‘flavored.’

It’s hard to beat a chocolate malt or a hot fudge sundae.

Ben and Jerry’s Boston Cream Pie ice cream. OMG! Yellow cake pieces in vanilla ice cream with a thick pastry cream swirl and fudge flakes. I will eat the whole container in a sitting.

Good quality vanilla with butterscotch sauce. Alternatively, a butterscotch milkshake.

A good back-up is a root beer float.

Anything else is usually just ordinary.

Vanilla, which can be dressed up or down.
Dulce de Leche.
Pistachio.
Vanilla with real raspberry ripples and cashew nuts (sadly no longer made).
Butter pecan.
Cold Stone Creamery sweet cream with pecans mixed in.

I really don’t care much for any other flavors. I’ll probably eat them, but I won’t really care for them.

Lot’s of good suggestions here and good ice cream is excellent when you find it.

But can I give a vote for the absolute worst ice cream? I give you the abomination that is Coldstone Creamery. Over sweetened and extra gummy. I’ve avoided it for a while but my son had a coupon so we had to go last night.
He had Blueberry. Horrible. Artificially flavored, gaggingly sweet, and chewy.
I thought I’d try something more safe like their berry frozen yogurt. Blech. Could they possibly dump any more sugar in there?
And yet every day during the summer the place has a line out the door.

I absolutely loathe the Cold Stone upsell (in addition to not caring for their actual product all that much). They have three sizes of cones/cups: Like It, Love It, and Gotta Have It (come to think of it, the overly cutesy names are yet another reason to despise the place). So, _any_ time I’ve ever been in there (which hasn’t been much, and it’s been a _long_ time since I was last there), it’s gone something like this:

Annoyingly peppy, chirpy Cold Stone employee: Hi! May I help you?!

Me: Uh, yeah, I’ll have an Oreo Overload™.

AP,CCSE: Would you like that Love It- or Gotta Have It-sized?! ::Giggles::

Me: ::Pauses, scowls:: You know, what I _really_ feel like now is a Like It-sized cup of plain sweet cream ice cream.

AP,CCSE: You _sure_ you don’t want any _mix-ins_?! ::Flicks ponytail::

Me: _Positive_. ::Points at tip jar; shakes head; laughs::
Yeah. I hate Cold Stone.

+1

The texture of their ice cream feels strange and the overall taste is too chemical-ey for me. Maybe they’re putting in too much xantham or guar gum.

> Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream. “Butter fudge swirled into our original vanilla flavored ice cream with chocolate fudge pieces” according to the Hudsonville Ice Cream website. Anyone not from Michigan ever hear of it?

I hadn’t until I saw it last week as a Limited Edition. They were having a BOGO sale on ice cream, so I got some to try.
The fudge was different than what I’m use to, kind of salty. But not bad.

My all time favorite is lost forever.

When I was 10 and lived in the Congo, Leopoldville had an ice cream parlor called Mont Blanc. They had a citron sorbet which was the very best ice cream like thing I have ever eaten. I have eat lemon sherbet and lemon Italian ices all over the country, and they all are good. I’ve had this in France and Germany - also excellent, but not the same.

When I die and my last word is not “Rosebud” but “Citron” you’ll know why.
