(With the minor quibble that that while the murders in Kenya were done by the British State on what it it would claim was the behalf of the British people, TruCelt appears to be envisaging some sort of popular mob uprising for a slightly different flavours of horror)
IN the 1860s the Greek royal line ended (it’s more complicated than that, but essentially the throne was vacant). Greece wanted to remain a monarchy, but there was no Greek royal house, and they didn’t want a civil war if one particular Greek family was placed above others, so they wanted a “neutral” king, who already had some royal prestige, and was young enough to learn Greek customs and language. They asked Queen Victoria for her second son, Alfred, to come to Greece, but she refused. There may have been other choices, but eventually the throne was accepted by the teenage second son of the King of Denmark, Prince William, who became George l of Greece. He married a Russian Grand Duchess who would have been Orthodox, so their kids were raised in the Greek Orthodox religion, and became essentially Greek, although they remained Princes and Princesses of Denmark, as well as Greece. Philip was the grandson of King George l- the son of his fourth son, Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark.
