All four of mine were born in the 19th century, and both my grandfathers fought in WWI, and both were dead before I was born in 1968. My gran and my nana both died before I turned 5, and I have only the dimmest memories of them.
My maternal grandma always said she was born in 1895, a year before my grandpa. Turns out she was really born in 1888, and casually changed her name somewhere along the way. I always thought she looked a lot older than grandpa and that explains why. We found out the name change from their marriage certificate and my mom’s birth certificate. My mom’s name on the birth certificate was also different from what mom thought it was- caused some minor troubles when social security time came.
Three out of four of my grandparents were born in the 19th century. My mother’s father was born in 1879, and her mother in 1889. (My mother was born in 1930.) My father’s mother was born in 1900 (technically 19th century).
All my grandparents were born in the 19th century. The record holder is my paternal grandmother, born in 1865 just 9 months after Appomattox. She died in 1955, and I remember her very well. A great lady.
Heck, my father was born in 1897.
I figured you might be one to reply to my request.
All mine were too, on both the maternal and paternal side, between 1886 and 1896.
My paternal grandfather was born in 1880, grandma was born in 1888. They both died in March of 1973, within a few weeks of each other.
Only one of my grandparents, my paternal grandmother, was born in the 20th century, in 1905. Of the others, one was born in 1898, and the other two were born in 1900.
My maternal grandparents were both born around 1885 (there were no birth certificates) and my paternal grandparents were probably a bit older. My father was born in 1906 and my mother in 1913.
I have a colleague whose paternal grandfather was born around 1806. His father was 60 when he was born and his grandfather 70 when his father was born. He was born in 1936, four months before me.
My paternal grandmother was born in 1892. My paternal grandfather in 1900.
My paternal grandmother was born in 1872; my maternal grandmother in 1884.
I don’t know my grandfathers’ birth years, but they’d likely be in the late 1870s or early 1880s.
My oldest paternal uncle was born in 1898 — his mother being 26, with 11 more kids to come (the youngest in 1911, when she was 39) — and was a First World War vet. He’d have been 16 when the guns of August let loose.
Well, my grandfather(RIP) was born in the 19th century, just barely. He was born October 17th, 1900.
Both of my paternal grandparents were born in 1890 something, don’t remember the exact dates.
My maternal grandmother was born in the 20th century, but she’s still with us! Grandma was born December 17th, 1904, one year to the day after the Wright Brothers flew at Kitty Hawk.
My maternal grandfather was born 1893, grandma 1897. Mom was born in 1916. I was born in 1946.
I’m 52, and my father (who was 66 when I was born) was born in 1893.
My maternal grandparents were both born in 1893.
My paternal grandparents were born in 1885 and 1887.
My maternal grandparents were born in 1892 and 1895, my mother in 1938 and me in 1974.
My maternal grandfather was born September 17, 1858 in Sonoma County, California. At the time of his death in 1950 he was California’s oldest living native son. My dad was born May 13, 1898. I came along in 1944. What do I win???
You get to briefly bask in the attention of a bunch of anonymous strangers on the internet.
I’m sure all of my grandparents were born in the 19th century, but the only birth date I can remember right now is my maternal grandmother’s: Feb 2, 1888.
My husband’s father was born in 1893. He was in his 50’s when he married my husband’s mother and they had three kids.
