Now I wonder how many of my new stalkers are Dopers. I checked out the profiles that I knew for sure were, based on this thread. There are some mystery folks there at the moment, though. ---

I joined a while back only for the tests, and decided I’m open to new friends, so I changed things around in my profile recently. I won’t put my pic in my profile though, I live in a small town of smallminded people, and I admit to being bi, so I need a little bit of anonymity. That plus I feel like I’m fat and ugly, and nobody needs to see that. I am sfdawn918. ---

I just changed my profile. It’s a bit sloppy, but I’ve gotten a couple of responses to my queries. Both were “I’m not interested, but…” and turned into ongoing conversations. Makes me wonder why people not interested in dating post profiles to dating sites. Maybe I should move to pay sites. I don’t want to waste time with women who are already hooked up, unless they are willing to, ahem, “upgrade.” My user name there is tdntdn. Yeah, original. I need to come up with a better username. I have a profile on there, that doesn’t get much use. I’ve had far better success with [Match.com](http://Match.com) so far, at least in terms of meeting actual flesh and blood people. Anyway, my screenname there is the same as here, Dunawake. Feedback or comments on my awesomeness welcome. 😛 ---

Wow, talk about a blast from the past. I tried out OKCupid for a couple of months, then met The Boy and retired my single status, thus negating the need for such things (I’d done all the good quizzes by then anyways). I never deleted my profile, so I’m sure it’s probably still sitting there gathering e-dust. I met a couple of interesting folks via that site, but never anyone with romantic potential. It didn’t strike me as a very effective dating site, actually - most people seemed to avoid the whole meeting face-to-face thing. ---

I know of several couples who are now married or cohabitating because of OKCupid, so I don’t see this lack of effectiveness people complain about. I’m fairly active in the little community there so I hear about stuff you guys might not. Right now I’m in the middle of some…situations, you might say. I never had a choice of dates before, so I’m a bit overwhelmed. ETA: And, of course, I understand that if you’re not personally having success, you don’t really give a damn whether other people are. 😃 ---

I found my way there because of the quizzes, too. Then **twickster** goaded me into making a profile and I love her for it. My boyfriend and I met there and we’ll mark a two-year anniversary next month. ---

Had one, met someone, went out a couple of times, it started going somewhere I wasn’t ready for, I told her so, turns out she didn’t take rejection (if you’d even call it that) very well, and after a few borderline abusive messages from her, I deleted my account in a fit of pique. I wish I hadn’t lost my temper, but I haven’t wished it badly enough to set up a new account yet. ---

[/QUOTE] It’s free to make a profile and add photos, but you have to pay to communicate in any fashion more advanced than a “wink.” I’ve generally found the women on Match to have better profiles and also tend to be more attractive in general, for whatever reason. 😛 Even if you don’t pony up the money right away, it will still notify you if you’ve received an email, it just won’t tell you where it came from. ---

Yeah, I’m on there, as dotsandlines, so go ahead, point and laugh at my profile. I’ve met one person from there IRL, which actually went well. For a short while. Like **Tuckerfan** , I find that the most interesting people are far away. Then again, statistically speaking, there are just a lot more people ‘far away’ than nearby.
