Anyone else here like Junkyard Wars?

Yeah… even if a few things are “well placed” its still pretty cool! I’m just glad they used a winch to try to get airborne instead of just throwing them off a cliff! I was worried

I knew the wenches were good for something! HeHe

My six-year-old is hooked on this show - this and Steve Irwin. No wonder it’s so hard to get him to go to bed in the evenings! All the good TV shows are just getting started.

I don’t watch a lot, but from what I have seen, it’s one of the best “accidentally educational” shows out there. The kid watches because the machines are kewl, but then along comes an explanation of why the yellow team was so happy to find that particular kind of valve.

Yep I love this show.

Re: the placement of some items.

This is not a secret. It was mentioned by the male host ( Who is Kriton(sp?) in Red Dwarf BTW) that certain items are hidden around the junkyard.

I love it too. I’ve seen every episode that TLC has aired.

One of my internet friends is a member of The NERDS. They’ll be on season 3 next month (in the US).

Oh No! That show is back on and I missed it?
That sucks!
The one about the amphib was great… A team of harley buffs kicked ass on some of the royal navy’s top officers!

We talked about this a while ago. Think is was a thread hijack so can’t find it.

I liked the one where they built artillery pieces that fired and the closest shot won. Also, the amphibious vehicle show was good…the van roof as a hull, mini car engine stuck on the back. Great stuff !!

Related but not so good is ‘Robot Wars’ – do you see that one, yet ?

Oops ! forgot this:

…and the Army team’s gun just shot the barrel 20 feet :D.

with that and the amphibs, the score is:
Royal Military: 0
Bikers: 2

The last one I saw last night was the mileage challenge where they bodged together a couple of light-weight vehicles. The one with the hedge trimmer motor ended up with 160 miles per gallon, and the bastardized mo-ped got to 178 mpg.

I want to see the show on submersibles!

I saw this earlier in the year when TLC first aired it. I missed some of the episodes but caught most of them. It is hands down one of the best shows on television. My husband hates TV but loves that show. He says that TV was made for shows like that.

It has everything–conflict, competition, educational bits, excitement, disappointment, danger, anticipation, mystery, etc. I can’t wait for the third season!

I just stumbled onto this show a couple of weeks ago - it’s amazing. My wife and I were discussing how to make the perfect killing robot for the programme. She came up with water (to short the others out) although I pointed out that water is quite heavy to carry. My thought was electricity - get your hands on an old spot welder or something and zap the other guy to fry out his electronics.

Junkyard Wars and Robot Wars are two of the coolest shows I’ve ever seen.

Isn’t the host of Robot Wars also from Red Dwarf? Coincidence…or conspiracy?

One of the announcers is Sean Salisbury, the guy that used to be an NFL quarterback.

Demo and I watched 3 or 4 episodes last night. Needless to say, we are both hooked. In fact as I sat here to check the board, Netscape(We use different browsers in order to keep cookies, bookmarks, etc., I use Explorer), was opened to the Junkyard Wars website. It ranks up there with Battlebots. I loved it!

Cnote, you are right, we do get some half decent shows over here. I think SHC is cool. WWF is good for a laugh sometimes though.

Gunslinger, good point. I had not noticed that both the presenters are from Red Dwarf (another cool show). It could have almost been planned.

Even though some of the stuff seems to be well placed, sometimes it is not in good working order, so they still have to fix it, and even then, they have to fit it into their design.

I think the explainations of why they are using one design over another, and how it will work are all great. I don’t know much about designing and building stuff, but it is great to pick up little bits of info every now and again.

I sat through about eight hours of the Junkyard Wars (Scrapheap Wars) marathon yesterday. I hope that my co-workers had a chance to catch a few of the shows. I’m tired of being the only guy in the office to see it so far.

Incidentally, the show that is being shown on Comedy Central isn’t actually called Robot Wars, it’s titled BattleBots. I love the show, but I can’t stand the announcers. I’m sure that the British version isn’t saddled with this problem.

That show had me glued to the TV all damn day!
Engines, welding, acetaline torches, GUNS, demolition, hydrolics, damn… if they would have thrown in a couple strippers the show would be a classic.

Can you really find running Land Rovers in junkyards?

(sp)acetylene

I clearly have faults.

Is it me, or does “bodge” sound like it really should be a sexual euphamism…?

Hey Chris, et al… welcome aboard the “fan-wagon.”
