And now that guy has his own show. I watched an episode of it and it was entertaining. It’s a family operation and it’s cool to see the lengths they have to go to restore some of these things.
Me, too – I grew up on the eastern edge of Bettendorf (PVHS class of 81), so I knew lots of people from LeClaire. Of course, that was a long time ago, and I don’t get back to the QC very often.
My wife loves the show. I think it’s OK. But if Frank (Rotund) says “I seen” one more time, I may have to hunt him down just to lay the grammar smack down on him.
I can’t stand that show, or Pawn Stars. I used to watch the History channel a lot, but because those shows are on a lot, I stopped even checking it.

My stepmom is from LeClaire so needless to say, her and my dad love the show. They currently live not far from there.
They also lose money, like the Plymouth Frank bought. I think they have a few misses in the pile. I too wish they had the real selling price on but sometimes it can sit on a shelf for a long time before it is sold.
Pawn Stars has the same problem. I would like to know if they really made out as well as they think they will.
I’m in Le Claire once or twice a month and the last time I was in town I stopped at the store. Really neat place w/ a LOT of amazing items on display. The day I stopped in, I think a Friday, there were about two dozen people waiting for the place to open.
Danielle does indeed hold down the fort and seems to REALLY enjoy meeting fans and chatting about the show. I don’t think many of the fans that stop by are from her/my generation… she seemed to REALLY dig that I had a Goonies shirt on.
She’s way cuter in person. I never thought she was very attractive on the show, her makeup is usually too harsh, but she tones it down in real life (at least when I was there). She’s really sweet too.
I kind of like the show, but they go on too much about “picking” when the show is about what they pick. It also seems to me that they might have hugely profitable specialties - motorcycles, for example, that they don’t emphasize that much on the show.
Hasn’t it pretty much been established that Chumlee plays stupid for the show? I believe most people who’ve met him have said he’s completely different – still goofy, but intelligent and knowledgable. (I also think some of it has to do with his lisp)
(When I first started watching, I hated Chum – he got on my nerves, but now I think he’s hysterical. I want one of those “Chumlee is My Homeboy” teeshirts)
For some reason Chum reminds me of Mike Schank from the documentarty “American Movie.”

I like this show! In the one I saw this week, they picked some sideshow banners for like $100.00, and sold them for $1000.00. They went back to the guy who sold them the banners and handed him $500.00 in cash, because they said they didn’t know they were so valuable.
Another show I have seen: they picked a bunch of stuff from an old guy named Leland and his daughter. They later found an old metal sign that had “Leland” on it. They took it to Leland and gave (not sold) it to him.
Cheez_Whia - yeah, in this last ep, first off, the guy asked $200 for the sideshow banners. Mike said he’d give $200 for the one in bad shape, and $500 for the one in better shape. Then, because of the $10,000 sale ($5K each), they went back and gave the guy an extra $5K.
That storage locker was insane. Someone paid $5K per month storage on that stuff? The guys did look a little out of their depths in the NYC traffic.

HOw many antique/flea market/junk/resale dealers do you know that long after the sale, months after your garage sale is over, drive back to your house and give you some more money?
