I had this experience once…oddly enough, it was in a room at an old inn (Charlemont Inn, Charlemont MA) that was repudely haunted. I could not move my body, then i felt a pair of paws on my chest (as if a small dog was placing his front paws on me). I also could hear myself talking…it sounded as if my voice was comong from a place miles away. all in all, a very strange experience.
The falling-asleep crash?
Called a “hypnic jerk” when it happens when you’re awake, and I’m guessing it doesn’t have another name.
Interesting article from io9 here.
Some of these posters are not having sleep paralysis but dream in dream states or not fully awake.
I get that time to time in year.
The other day I’m laying on my side in bed and I’m not fully awake!! Well I can see the room and feel a sensation of a demon in the room , some thing is pushing my back , loud rushing sound .I try to push back but have trouble moving . The harder I push the harder it pushes me . I have trouble pushing back , but try very hard than I fully awake from my semi awake dream.
I have had other dreams where I’m on my back or front and laying in bed and a sensation of a demon in the room , some thing is pushing or tugging me . I try to push back but have hard time to move.
All dreams are similar where by there is .
1.sensation of a demon in the room
2.some thing pushing or tugging me
3.Not fully awake.
4.Have hard time to move ( only move little bit ) like it is a lot of work to move.
5. Never see the demon.
6.Scared but more scared if its really happening in real life.
7. Trying to push back ( to stop the demon from pushing or tugging me
8 Some times I know I’m dreaming and know the only way to end it is to push back really hard.
9.Some times play dead in the dream thinking the demon will stop pushing or tugging me. But normally demon pushes harder , where by I than have to try to push back.
Some times I feel demon pulling the covers off me and I’m trying really hard to stop this.
I don’t really call this sleep paralysis but a semi awake
It like the brain is 50% asleep or giving you dream in dream state.I can see this happening two or three times but this happening a lot .
Not sure why it is happening.
I get bouts of sleep paralysis occasionally. I never feel completely paralyzed though - my limbs feel like they weigh 100lbs each, and I can move them, but only with an extreme amount of effort. It usually happens when I drift to sleep in a setting other than in bed. never seen a “Hag” or any other malevolent-seeming entity.
I used to lucid dream a lot. I really need to get back into it, but it requires effort on my part since my brain isn’t geared toward that sort of thing (long story).
One technique for getting into a lucid dream is referred to as WILD: wake-induced lucid dream. You get into a comfy position, and stay motionless for ~20-30 minutes. After a time, your body decides that you must be asleep, because you haven’t moved. After a few minutes of suffering a violent urge to move, your body will give up and go to sleep, while your brain remains conscious. The transition is freaky as hell and involves a ton of weird sensations and audible hallucinations as your body essentially disconnects from your brain. I’m not joking, either.
Once the process is completed you will be in a state of sleep-paralysis, and your brain will quickly follow into a dream state, which is fine because you’re still conscious. Boom! Lucid dream.
I have only managed this once, because the transition process is difficult for me to manage without freaking out. Usually my breathing gets out of control and I have to start all over.
TL;DR: Lucid dreamers love sleep paralysis. Film at eleven.
Why is there so little research and study going into this? Some of this stuff is just crazy.
I Wonder if some of this is the brain not working well with coming in or out of dream state and it is NOT malfunctioning well.
It’s like the switch that says “Ok, you’re awake now” doesn’t flip.
For me, it’s a general ominous sense of foreboding or doom. The entire world comes shaded with brilliant colors and I feel like my entire body is tingling. And the doom is coming closer…and closer…and closer. In my head, I’m screaming. When I first had this, I would ask my SO - didn’t you hear me? But I never made a noise. And I have to fight my way out of the situation. I feel myself struggling to move my limbs, any of them, as it moves closer…and closer…and closer.
Now I am more familiar so I try to examine the feelings a bit more. It’s still scary, though. It’s not a rational fear. It’s just terror.
