Anyone else seriously considering leaving?

I agree with this.

I’m hating this interface because it’s slow, it freezes a lot, and navigating to threads I might be interested in is confusing. Oh, and it took me six tries to quote this text in mobile, because it’s fiddly…

But I’d be delighted to get inline pictures.

Of course, that was an option with the old software, so I expect we won’t have it here, either.

I would give it a chance, perhaps they can set up a similar "look"to the old PHBB style down the road. Put all the engineers/coders who post here to work!
I am somewhat a luddite, but when things work well, its not that hard to deal with. Setting up home WIFI light switches? hahaha shoot me first.

I use a simple chromebook with Adblock, and the new site is super fast.

I haven’t found it to be particularly frustrating thus far, with a few really minor exceptions. One, it doesn’t automatically log us in like the old one did- I was browsing, looking at threads, etc… and wondering why I wasn’t seeing the “Reply” stuff until I realized that I wasn’t actually logged in.

Second, I already miss the little mouse-over for thread titles that shows the first line or so of the post. Post titles are often just cryptic enough that the first line clarifies things and I can make a better decision about whether I want to read or not.

Otherwise, I’m liking it. Especially the scrolling. I hadn’t realized how much I disliked the paged format until using the new scrolling format.

Dinsdale - First thing, I’d reclaim your name and history. Go to Login and enter your name and forgot password. Click “OK” and it’ll send you a link so you can change your password. The next thing I’d do is go to your user settings and change the overlay to “Simple Sam”, which looks a lot like the old board.

I’m not thrilled so far, but I’ll get used to it. I’d had to lose you because of a few minutes of frustration.

It looks like they’ve removed the pics and gif posted to this thread last night. That’s wonderful. I hope it stays that way.

I’m not picking on anyone, but I don’t understand how someone could be on the internet for 20 days, and not realize that everyone is not like you (or apparently, most people.)

Maybe I’m just really stupid, but my inability to figure out what you consider the basics of navigation significantly decreases my desire to do so much on-line. Your inability to understand my difficulty does not make my difficulty and frustration any less real. If something is not where I expect it to be, or requires clicking on an icon or something to appear, it is essentially invisible/nonexistent.

Oh well - plenty of dead tree books to be read and music to be made in meatspace.

I’m messing around, not really sure what I’m doing. I’m not seeing ads. My Avatar looked crappy and I changed it. Not happy with my choice, I find something better.

I’m not going anywhere. I’ll love the Dope and you guys too much.
Def. not missing the errors.

Thanks - that is so much more helpful than anything I’ve been able to figure out myself. But here’s how clueless I am - I can’t even readily figure out how to get to “Login” from where I am. And when I’m trying to do something so simple, even 2-3 unsuccessful clicks pretty much makes me want to step away from the keyboard to avoid chucking it through a closed window.

I’d rather clean toilets.

I had this idea for a “Twilight Zone” or “Outer Limits” episode in which every day a person wakes up in a new slightly different alternate universe. Everything is the same except that all the buttons, switches, dials and controls on everything are different and non-intuitive, and our poor protagonist has to relearn how to make everything work every day.

Click on the D avatar at the top. Then click on your user name and hit log out. Then log in again, but with your old name. Then do the Forgot Password rigamarole.

The lack of a list of subscribed threads sorted by currency is a deal breaker for me. Discource far too needy and is all about generating noise. I urge the powers that be to fix this or move to another platform.

They’ve already changed the look and feel of the main page, so I hope that helps. I was about to link you to a page that looked more like the main page at the old site, but that page is already dead and the new main page looks more like it. I hope you find that more to your liking.

What do you mean by “currency”, Muffin?

Not bailing, but I do find the new interface hideously ugly, with far too much white space and much worse navigatability. It is something that is to be endured. Also, all these “badges” I keep getting are condescending and like something out of a game for tweens.

I agree about the badges. I changed my overlay to “Simple Sam” and like the look much better.

And go where? If there was a place that was comparable to this I probably would have gone there long ago. I don’t particularly like a lot of the places on this board but I’m an IMDB transplant and don’t feel like I have a real alternative. I will not give Reddit my time.

Honestly it’s really not that different in terms of functionality. You got here, you posted, people are replying, you see the replies. That’s all you need. Maybe you don’t like the appearance? I don’t like the look of these mass whitespace minimalist websites but that’s just where the internet is right now.

Dinsdale, I get your frustration. I’m liking the new site and having fun, but there are a lot of changes in a short amount of time. It’s like the early adopter phase of a new piece of technology. The bugs aren’t worked out, and things are changing too quickly to figure it all out before something else changes again. There have been several major changes to the look and feel of the site in just the last few hours.

I would miss your posts, so I hope you continue on. But maybe it would help to take a short break and wait until the kinks and bugs have been worked out. Then people can answer your questions in a more straightforward way when other people have a better handle on it.

Hope to see you again soon.

I think every theme should be tried out so that one can make the best decision. I am with the “material” one now, where posts are clearly separated, which gives some sort of spatial organization that some other themes lack.

Bookmark(at the bottom) is the closest thing to a subscribe function that I’ve found.

I like Simple Sam because it tells me who started a thread and who the last poster is.
