Dejahda and Dejahson are currently in the basement drilling holes in the wall to give me 48 more linear feet of book shelves!! They did 108 feet as my surprise gift for Christmas (made me go shopping with Dejahdaughter so I wouldn’t know). And then Dejahkids alphabetized and shelved lots of books. Then they did 72 ft more yesterday because the first 108 ft were filled with all the books laying around waiting to be shelved. I love these guys. Soon we are going to drink some bubbley, possibly hot tub, grill some steaks, watch a movie and go quietly to bed. So far in my almost 50 years we have “done” NYE twice. Not much fun either time. Dejahdaughter “did” NYE last year in spain with her SO and this year is spending it with SO’s family because she discovered ‘doing’ NYE was not much fun either. So are we just boring, are we missing something or what? I see all these NYE party do’s and wonder if we are just clueless? ---

Oh, I’ve been keeping myself busy. I went shopping earlier today, and one of the things I bought was a new floor lamp/end table set, which took me a longgggg time to assemble. Now I’m watching an old movie. ---

oops again, dejahson and dejahda just reminded me that we spent two NYE’s at Disney and had a really good time. So maybe we are not quite as lame as we appear closer than we seem in rear view mirrors. ---

Not to judge, but I’m not sure Disney World counts all that high on the hip-fun-meter. I’m watching some skating I taped about a week and a half ago and thinking longingly of bed – I’m guessing I’ll be asleep by 10:00. The Mutter was fun, and though the place we planned to go to pizza was doing a price fixe NYE thing, the place we ended up instead was fine. My question is – if I’m dating three different guys these days, why am I home alone? ---

Decided at last minute to have a magical pajama party champers and karaoke night with my best friend for the last 18 years. We are going to make our own little tissue crowns and drunkenly dance to disco. I hope we are not sober by midnight. Husband will come home to two drunk women. Not exactly the dream he had wished for. ---

I’m going to be combining a couple of the wild stay-at-home activities mentioned previously – watching Adult Swim and painting. Or more accurately, spackling and scraping. My project for the period between Xmas and New Years was to get my living room, bedroom and hall painted. I have a total of 11 days off including weekends and after seven days, I figure I’m about 8 days behind schedule. 140 year old house and a lot of cracks in the plaster make for a thrill-packed New Year’s Eve. ``` I'll probably party down with a glass of Bailey's somewhere around midnight. ``` ---

Well, I’ll be kind of alone tonight, but kind of not. A few weeks ago, I finally joined the 21st century and got a DVD player. So the kids are watching _Lion King_ for the bazillionth time (which is okay…honestly, _Lion King_ is one of _my_ all-time favorite films, too). Got some vanilla ice cream and some chocolate chip cookies, and the kids are enjoying some ice cream sandwiches, too. In a little while, though, **Euty** will be online, and through the magic of technology, I’ll be ringing in the New Year with him. While we won’t be physically together, we’ve both got webcams, so I can at least be looking at him when midnight rolls around. 😃 …and while I’m on that topic, HUGE thanks to **Geobabe** and **Unclebill** for the donation of one of their old webcams. They know how tough long-distance relationships can be, and know that being able to actually _see_ your loved one really, really helps. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank the two of you enough for that. Once **Euty** gets here, I think we’ll be watching Dick Clark together, and trying to determine just how that man stays so freaking young. 😃 ---

This New Year’s was the first that my partner and I were able to spend physically together. Last year we could only “chat” online and talk over the phone. Home alone, not dating anyone, don’t like the bars when they’re busy and filled with drunks. Had a chance to go out and drink on a bus tour of bars, but I REALLY like waking up on the first day of the new year feeling good. Alone and hungover from cigarettes and booze is a lousy way to wak up on any day, but on NYD . . . Ran into a married guy friend who kept saying, “You’re single and you’re staying home on NYE? Why if I was single I"d be out partying.” Dude, if I had a girlfriend I’d be cooking her supper and making the sign of the two-backed armadillo at midnight. Wanta trade? And the dog is going to wake me at midnight to let me know that people are setting off fireworks. Whistlepig ---
