Well, I just decided to open the bottle of wine (mom sent four bottles home with me after Christmas, because she prefers red and these are whites). This one’s not bad at all.
I’ve also got a movie in the dvd player…I hate to admit what it is, but here goes: V: the final battle. I found it at the used book store earlier today and just couldn’t resist putting it in.
So I’m drinking, surfing the dope and watching an 80’s mini-series. Am I a party girl or what?
I was invited to go out to Navy Pier to watch the fireworks and whatever the hell they have going on over there. I declined. I hate being in large crowds. So here I sit, playing on the internet, waiting for the Indian food I ordered to arrive. When it gets here, I think I’ll watch my new Moulin Rouge! DVD and eat.

Not exactly the dream he had wished for.”
I third the above posts? lol!
It’s close to 10 pm and I’m fading fast (my previous words are coming back to haunt me so soon). I have the excuse that I’ve been fighting the flu the 6th day now. We’ll see…I’m going to go peek in GDs.
I’ve eaten some chocolate, maybe the caffeine will keep me up?!

What? You started it!!
Dammit, when is that Dick Clark show starting? :::eagerly checks TV Guide:::
Thanks, wendy. It’s always good to know when other people really do understand.
Next year will probably be celebrated the same way, but telling myself that after this year, there’s “only one more” is getting me through the day, and I’d bet my house you know what I mean.
Well, I’m sitting here at 9pm listening to the Twilight Zone marathon on SciFi and (obviously) checking out SDMB. About as exciting as NYE ever gets for me; I’ll probably be up at midnight only because I seldom get tired until 1am anyway.
I may throw caution to the winds and have a glass of hi-test eggnog a little later.
Well, you’re the one that decided to move to Chicago, instead of staying here in Michigan! Had you stayed here, I’d be on ya like Washington on a dollar bill, baybee.
I’m also staying home, and that’s fine, because I’ve been running short on sleep lately and fought off the sleepies all day today. Besides, I did X-mas with friends, and we partied like it was Mardi Gras, so I feel like I’ve scratched that itch.
If I was in my normal night-owl health, I’d stay up most of the night enjoying the competing TV marathons on: Twilight Zone (Sci-Fi) and Three Stooges (AMC). But as it is, I’ll turn in in a while. TZ marathon be damned, there’s some fine college football bowl games on tomorrow that I want to be fully alert for.
[Harrrummmph. The next time I come across a single guy lamenting ever finding a woman who shares his interests, I’ll show 'im this… lessee, partying (check), TZ and Three Stooges marathons (check), and college football all day long (five checks). C’mon, guys!]
I’m home, but I’ve had one sideways car, two beers, and six rounds of “happy fire” from the neighbors, so I have enongh excitement without leaving home.
Ok, it’s been what, half an hour since I posted last? I drank 2 glasses of wine (half the bottle…yippee), and I’m pretty happy at the moment. Yes, I’m a cheap drunk, really.
But now I don’t feel at all bad about being at home on NYE. In fact, I’m grinning from ear to ear, but I’m going to try to abstain from posting “drunk threads” while I’m here.
I cannot believe that I’m feeling those two glasses this much…makes me think that I don’t drink enough for a grad student, right?
I’m home now after dinner out with relatives. Lousy steak but good company. Now I’m going to relax with a book and perhaps a bit of bubbly. Thank heaven for cable so I can watch the ball drop without waiting for midnight. I’ll be more than happy to greet the new year at eight o’clock tomorrow morning. Happy New Year Dopers!
I spent mine watching weird Japanese New Year’s tv. This was 12 hours ago already and yet it’s not even midnight in the states yet. But yeah, apparently this is what japanese folks like to put on tv on new years eve: A skinny guy wearing just a loin cloth, prepares repeatedly for his stunt, which takes place not at midnight but like 10 minutes later. He soaks himself with water, and then a giant flaming log was rammed at the building behind him, meaning he should have died. The shows three hosts (including a woman who screams at everything in absolute terror) then spend about an hour searching for him. When they find him, he’s wearing makeup! More hilarity ensues.
The same people did this show last year as well, last year skinny loin cloth man bungee jumped off a building into a pit of flames.
It’s hilarious to watch, though I am sure if I understood Japanese it’d be much funnier.
Well, it’s 11:14. I sent my girlfriend to bed, cause she hasn’t been feeling well. We did watch Food Network’s airing of the King of the Iron Chefs Tournament. So my ass is being sat on as of this moment. Think I’ll read some more threads, then play some Postal 2.
But Samwise is sooooooo sweet too…yummy hobbits. I was going to watch POTC after Two Towers but I don’t know…maybe just look at interesting fanart. Very interesting fanart.
11:22 PM and I’m obviously in here checking out the boards while hubby channel-surfs in the living room. NYE just hasn’t been a big deal since I got sober.
Persephone, I’m just glad we could help. We didn’t exactly need it any more, but we remember very well how much it helped to be able to see each other even if we couldn’t be in the same room.
