I really don’t see much of a downside to having a Facebook page. I use mine a lot when I travel, as a repository for my pictures. I ignore it for weeks at a time, then go on a posting binge for a while. ---

I picked “other”, because I have one, but it’s an obviously phony name with entirely made up bio. I never use it for anything, I only have it because people link to FB pages that won’t let you see it unless you sign in. Otherwise, I have no interest in FB. ---

I used to have one to keep in touch with family cross country. It validated my decision to limit my interactions to a few brief visits a year. It added no value to my life, and I deleted the account over a year ago. ---

Facebook is only as interesting as the friends you have on Facebook. After all, all the content is generated by the users. If, like indyvet says, all your contacts are annoying/angry relatives that you don’t want to talk to much, then there’s really no point. ---

I’m on it and I like it pretty much. I’ve joined some school alumni groups, some musician fan pages, and some interest pages. So everyday I can take a quick look and get information that interests me. Compare that to looking at a news source and finding out that the latest horrendous gun-slaughter idiot was mad at his mother or that one of the Kardashian attention whores broke up with another attention whore and I think I’m ahead. ---

I bailed out right after I signed up. I really didn’t like when it went through my hotmail address book and started asking me if I wanted to friend people I’d long forgotten about. Nope, not for me. ---

I like it for finding out what is going on in the family. It’s how I found out one of my aunts had died, a cousin was getting married, another is about to have a baby, another just found out she is going to have another baby. I’ve gotten some nice recipes, gotten a few laughs over some jokes. I have to skip over all the political, Ravens and religious stuff. It’s a small price to pay to keep up with what is going on. ---
