Thanks for remembering me, MtM!! I was just thinking about this thread today then when I opened it I saw your update from the other day.
I had a great time in Kamloops and actually it is a beautiful place. I am from Kansas City so I am not used to seeing mountains every morning out my window! I must say 2 weeks was a LONG time to be away from home, but it was a memorable experience.
We did manage to get over to the Salmon Run. It was very interesting, and STINKY!!! Color me surprised when I found out that once the salmon spawn the die!!! I had no idea! I even stupidly asked, “Where do the salmon go after they come here”. Silly me.
Otherwise we didn’t have alot of free time. The hotel we stayed in was the Hampton Inn (very nice!), and we had dinner several times at On the Rocks, the bar & grill across the parking lot. Pretty good food. And I fell in love with Okanagan Springs Pale Ale! That is some tasty beer! We also ate dinner at Ric’s in the Four Points Sheraton a couple times, as well as Forster’s at the Best Western across the street from us.
Let’s see, what else. We also ate at East Coast Mario’s, Boston Pizza, Duffy’s Bar and Grill, Fog and Sud’s and Tumbleweeds. We also went out dancing at The Thirsty Dog downtown, which horrified some of the locals, but we had a fun time.
My favorite thing about the whole trip was how wonderfully nice all the people were that we met in our travels. I feel like I made some great Canada friends. Since we work for the same company I am keeping in touch with many of them.
It was also funny how no matter where we went people commented on our accents! Since I’m from the midwest I don’t think of myself as having an accent, but several people told me I sound like I’m from Texas!!! I got a real kick out of that.
I was really glad I got to experience Kamloops, it’s a place I never would have ever planned to visit on my own. Thanks again to everyone who gave me some ideas of what to do while we were there!!
