Twickster – We haven’t. tdc and I are still processing this information and talking about how we think this talk should be initiated and when. Cliffy – I’m sorry that you assumed we had _not_ spoken to a professional about this issue. We have. I started the thread to hear a different side–from the kids who lived through this and to get an idea of what helped or hurt them. The therapist was an adoptive mom, but her child knew she was adopted from day one, so her advice–which was very helpful and much appreciated–wasn’t specific to what I was asking here. ---

The biggest thing that helped me, and it didn’t come until years later, was getting online and finding all kinds of adoption boards, especially “adult adoptee” board - boards simply with adoptees that were now adult. Just to find out I wasn’t alone, and that so many people had had it way worse than me, and that lots and lots of people were in the same boat as me… And don’t rush the talk, but don’t put it off either. 🙂 Luck. ---

Sorry, nothing substantive to add. But I wanted to say that every time I see the thread title I think, _“Well, if someone were adopted as a teen, wouldn’t they already know and not need to find out?”_ :smack: Am I the only one? ---
