Anyone had a dental implant ?

I got my implant (eyetooth, upper left) back in 2000. It’s holding up just fine. Other than the need to floss daily around it (which is more frequently than I floss the rest of my teeth), it’s just like any other tooth.

It took a series of 5-6 visits to the oral surgeon scattered intermittently over the length of the year, but none of 'em were any biggie in terms of discomfort or inconvenience.

I think it cost ~$2000, and the specifically surgical parts were covered by my Blue Cross. I’m guessing it paid for ~40% of the overall cost.

Were the surgical parts covered by regular health insurance or dental insurance?

I had one fitted about three years ago, to replace a molar that I had broken on pizza crust many yeard before, and which slowly disintegrated over time. I think I got ripped off on the price (It came to over £3,000, and my insurance didn’t cover it) but other than that it is brilliant. It’s totally indistinguishable from a real tooth, apart from the tiny annoyance that food can get trapped in the small gap between the “tooth” and the gum, but an interdental brush easily pokes that out.

The installation was totally painless, as I recall. It just took two or three visits spaced over a few weeks.
