Anyone here drive an all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle?

I have a 2012 Volt and love it. Still performs as new. It’s fun to drive. I checked out the Bolt a few weeks ago and didn’t care for it at all. So, I’m keeping the Volt until I can get a Tesla some day.

The Bolt isn’t coming to Missouri till September, I think. And it’s not really on the table for me anyway. But, out of curiosity, what didn’t you like about it?

My Prius gave up the ghost (head gasket cracked and dumped coolant into two cylinders). I’ve been eyeing the Tesla 3, but it’s not really available at the moment. So I bought a Chevy Bolt. I love it!

The huge battery was the main selling point. My commute is 60 miles round trip. That means cars with ranges of around 100 miles are cutting it too close for my comfort. The Bolt at 60 kWh claims 238, and it matches my statistics so far. No range anxiety for me with that.

I trickle-charge it home right now at 110V, until I get the 220V-voltage charger installed. But there’s plenty of chargers scattered about LA; it’s not hard to find one. The mileage is good. I’ve been getting about 4 mi/kWh (which matches the spec). A typical street charger around here is $0.20/kWh, which means $0.05/mi. Once mine own charger is installed, I’ll fill up at $0.08/kWh ($0.02/mi). For comparison, my late Prius was getting 50mi/gal, so at $3.00/gal it was $0.06/mi.

I’m not sure the economics can justify getting it instead of a cheap gas commuter, but it’s fun and comfortable to drive. And taking the car pool lane saves 10 to 30 minutes every day. That’s as valuable as any monetary savings.

It felt and drove like a “cheap Chevy.” I didn’t like the look so much, and the interior was very uninspired. It’s like they wanted to dumb it down. The Volt, IMO, is a very upscale ride.

I’m hoping- for their own sake- Tesla fans are prepared for the same thing with the Model 3. 'cos their ain’t no way it’s going to be as nice as a Model S.
