# Anyone know a software application that.....

…runs in the background and just pops up, when appropriate, with reminders of things like birthdays and such like. Ideally, it would be a light weight, independent proggy and not part of M/S Outlook, etc. ?

I’m sure they must be around, just don’t remember coming across one…

It’s not a reminder program, but I use one called **TurboNote**. It’s a Post-It style program that lets you leave sticky notes on your desktop. You can set alarms on them, IIRC. There’s an ad-supported freeware version and an upgraded pay version. Both should be available on [http://www.download.com](http://www.download.com).

In general, that link and [http://www.tucows.com](http://www.tucows.com) should have a whole section devoted to reminder programs.
