In my very slow, intermittent decluttering process I see a grease gun in my basement which I haven’t used for quite a few years. It seems like a lot of consumer products where you used to use grease guns now have sealed bearings. So for those of you who own a grease gun, exactly where do you use it? Thanks. ---

Grease guns are used on cars. Most cars still have a few fittings on the tie rods and ball joints. Sometimes you have to install the fitting yourself before lubing the front end. You should always lube whenever you change the oil. I haven’t used mine in years. I used to lube the cars, my knees won’t let me do any of that anymore. Occasionally I need a dab of grease for some of my tools or squeaky car door. My son borrowed it a couple of times to work on his motorcycles. Oil cans used to be common too. ---

I use it mainly on a swiveling rear tire on the brush hog attached to the back of my little Kubota front-end loader. I probably should search my maintenance manuals for more zerks I should be attending to, but machine maintenance isn’t my strong point, important as it is. ---

I thought these days everyone just used caulking guns with disposable tubes of grease. ---

I think grease guns are in the same box with oil-can spouts. Maybe a thread about “Tools you don’t see any more” instead of “Things you don’t do any more”\* - - 2 more for that one: “Defrost Fridge” and “Never place a wrist watch stem-down” ---

My dad has borrowed his neighbor’s grease gun this summer to grease up the swings on the grandkids’ playset. Of course, one of the girls ended up with a glob of grease in her hair so I am not sure the grease gun will make another appearance haha ---

We’ve got one here at work. But I think the only thing it gets used for is lubing the giant fans on the cooling towers. ---

Yeah… Just found it when cleaning out the shed. I do have a truck with a plow on it and a 4x4 Kubota loader. I suspect I’m not done with it yet. ---

I’ve never seen one made for use in a caulking gun – are you sure they exist? If there were such a thing it wouldn’t work for automotive applications, which use zerk fittings on the vehicle components. ---

If your trailers do not have bearing buddies and you have a grease gun to use on it, gah !!! Don’t own a boat that is on a trailer?
