I recently discovered a white-noise app that was useful for sleeping while traveling over the holidays.
Gmail push stopped working today. The Motorola Droid forums are no help: several people have started threads about this issue, but there are no replies other than “check your sync settings.” Which I have, over and over, including stopping and restarting sync. I tacked a “me too” post onto the most recent thread, and will hope someone sees it.
I happen to have an errand to run at lunchtime tomorrow just down the street from where I bought the phone, so I might swing by the Verizon store while I’m out and see if they can can help me.
Gmail push is pretty much the only reason why I have any smartphone, and the notifications are a big reason why I wanted a Droid. Sigh.
So, I’m honestly asking here – not trying to debate any particular phones – what’s the big advantage of a faster CPU for a phone?
I mean, I’m not expecting to be running protein-folding calculations on my phone, and even the MyTough/iPhone seem to have enough power to make phone calls, play .MP3s, do GPS calculations, calculate star positions etc., even run compressed video. What tasks would the faster CPU make a difference for?
Oops, forgot to post an update: push started working again by itself the next day. Since then, whenever push seems to stop working I just restart the phone and it’s fixed – but I’ve only had to do that a couple of times.
All in all, almost 3 weeks in I freaking LOVE this thing.
