I play on airplane rides and when killing time waiting for the kids to go to sleep. Or in the bathroom… any time I have 2+ minutes to play a game, Pokemon Pinball is there for me. Or Golden Sun, or Advance Wars 2.
I’m thinking I should pick up WarioWare, since it gets rave reviews.
Oh, and there are lots of older gamers, including several women, posting over at the GamerDad forums.
45 year old woman. Silver GBA SP. The only pathetic part is because my eyes are getting old (go figure!) I have to wear glasses to play. I play Mario 3, Zelda and Donkey Kong. I don’t do “sit and wait” well anywhere so I take my GB and everything’s fine. Thanks for ideas on new games!
Check it out racinchikki, this is the newest model…folds up like a laptop, is more powerfull than a SNES, has a powerfull frontlight so it can be played even in a completely dark room, backwards compatible with all gameboy and gameboy color games
Forgot to add that it uses a recharable battery that will last you for several years, so no need to purchase countless batteries. Here’s a picture of the gameboy advance SP closed…fits beautifully in your pocket. http://www.jimtaylor.clara.co.uk/pictures/index/sp_closed.jpg
About 4 years ago, when my daughter was 6, I bought her a Gameboy Color…Being 6, she was having trouble with the Pokemon games…silver, I believe it was. So I started to play it, so I could help her…I ultimately bought my own Gameboy color, because I liked playing Pokemon…(Love the game, hate the shows!)
When the GBA-SP came out last year, I was really jazzed…It folds for storage, so you don’t scratch the screen, and it’s lit up so you don’t need a worm light…So now my daughter and I both have them…I played Pokemon Ruby last summer and completed it…I wanted there to be more towns to go to when I was done. I also like Super Mario Advance 2.
Oh, and…I’m in my 40’s BTW.
Yeah GBA rocks, although I wouldn’t dream of playing mine in public (more due to fear of theft than embarassment).
Am currently enjoying Chu Chu Rocket and Super Ghouls and Ghosts (a cynical coin gobbler if ever there was one, but still great). I was going to buy Super Mario World or III, but thought they might have aged badly…
46 year old female gamer here. I don’t have a Gameboy of any sort. However, I do have my own NES, SNES, PSX, and PS2. All of those consoles except for the NES were bought as gifts for me, at my request. My husband and daughter ask me, before every gift-giving occasion, which game I would like. They know that I either want a game or some books. I also play pen and paper D&D and an online RPG (Gemstone IV). I hated to see my old Commodore 64 die, because I had some great games for it. When I go into the hospital, I take an old laptop and one of the old SSI computer D&D games, and I’m happy. Well, happy except for missing my cat and the insistence of the various techs on taking my blood.
The main reason I wanted my first computer was because I’d heard of Zork, and it fascinated me. I use my computers mostly for games, very rarely for productivity, though I’ll keep the odd recipe or medical records file.
Before computer/video games, (and I’m old enough that I remember seeing and puzzling over Pong) I played cards incessantly, and board games with anyone who would play against me.
I’ve never been in a Live Action Role Playing (LARP) game. This is because I’m in poor physical shape. If I was in good shape, I’d probably be a regular player at that, too.
I am the same way, the computer is mainly games (and lurking here!). I was a card/board game nut when I was a kid, too. Back then, there were always neighborhood kids to play with. Growing up, it got harder to find people to play with. I don’t remember seeing Pong as a kid, but I still have my old Atari, and not needing anyone else to play was great!
When I got a little older, most girls I knew “outgrew” games. Since the consoles, and now computers, I’ve always played and enjoyed them.
I knew women played games, I just don’t know any personally. A friend of mine teases me a little, I’ll have to show her this thread!
I completely agree. Pokémon is really fun, and it’s certiantly easier to get into than most of the Final Fantasy games I’ve played.
I would by the Mario Advance games, Zelda 3, Donkey Kong and the other GBA ports, all of which are good games, except I have most of them as ROM files, and have been playing them very recently (Just beat Super Mario Bros. 3 last night!).
