X, Y, and Z coordinates are entirely relative. Anyone’s welcome to assign them to any plane they wish. I’m sure Notch had a good reason for assigning Y to the vertical plane.
Very nice! Multiple colors!
Entertaining videos, I keep laughing and remembering my first night.
Yeah, I’ve had my share of deaths. I’ve got a system down which involves standing near enough so that the mined block might ‘pop’ to me instead of the lava, and then I poor water over the newly revealed lava, but I’ve noticed that if I find obsidian that doesn’t have lava under it, usually a generous part of that obsidian section is like that, which is nice.
I’ve been experimenting with seeds and found one that spawns a natural lava pool very close to water.

I can’t find an ocelot for the life of me! My jungles are filled with leaf-bound pigs. I’m going to try killing a few and maybe ocelots will spawn. Can anyone confirm that ocelots spawn on Peaceful setting?
They are passive mobs, so I am 99% sure that they spawn on Peaceful. Clear a nice patch of jungle to the ground, and the ocelots are easier to find.
Some mundane pics of my new world :
The jungle just outside my door. You can see four ocelots, including a kitten. There are at least three others hidden behind the foliage, all bunched up.

I know they should spawn in Peaceful, but I’m hoping to hear from someone who has successfully found them in that mode. I’m seeing hints of other people finding them only when on other settings. I suspect they’re getting trapped inside leaf blocks, like the other animals.

The indoor, elevated sex grotto. A naturally-formed underground lake. The previous pic of my growroom was taken from the edge of the grotto looking down.

This is a definite, known issue, and not just with ocelots. I’ve seen chickens and sheep trapped in leaf blocks.

Anyone who is bored with Vanilla Minecraft should check out Vech’s “Super Hostile” series. There are 10 maps in the main series (though he is currently updating them all to the new file format, so only a few are playable with the latest version).
The idea is that you play in a big, dangerous world with traps and dungeons, trying to collect colored wool as trophies to fill the “Victory Monument”. It adds a new level of challenge to the mundane aspects of Minecraft.
I have completed 95% of #7, Legendary (I skipped Pain Water and have little desire to do it now) and I just started Sun Burn Islands. It is more relaxing, but still challenging.
I also recommend watching the Ultra-Hardcore series (season 3) which is a Highlander style, PvP, last man standing round of intense survival Minecraft with a twist: You can’t regenerate health! Etho, mention earlier, is one of the 8 players, and all 8 post their own perspective. This is a great place to Start : VintageBeef’s perspective of episode 1
Today I was below ground and saw 2 pigs’ nether regions suspended from the dirt ceiling. Evidently they were catching a ride down some vines which continued into the cave, when they became imbedded in the dirt. A moment later they just rode right down through the dirt blocks.
Amblydoper that series sounds amazing. I’m constantly in awe of the creativity of Minecraft players. I started watching an exploration and tactics series today, by Lorgon111. He mentions doing some of that and preparing for a “wool race”, which he’s probably done a video of by now.
So, after finishing the game I decided I wanted to join the Westeros project that Keweenaw linked to. Only they want you to post a picture of something you’ve worked on in-game.
So I went to load up a cathedral I built a while back. I discovered that the save for the most recent version of it was hosed, and I had to go to an earlier backup that wasn’t complete.
Then I set about completing it, again. That was about three weeks ago. It’s now twice as large as it was before, and way more complex. At this rate winter will have come before I get on that server.
What I’ll usually do is just find some lava, pour some water on it so it all turns to obsidian, then dig out one of those blocks - that block will most likely fall into the lava underneath. Now pour water into the hole you just made, and start hitting the blocks next to it. The water will turn the lava underneath into obsidian before your mined obsidian is burned up.
The Race for the Wool was originally started by Vechs, the same guy that made the Super Hostile Series. Reddit did a tournament of about 16 teams of 4 people (mostly popular Minecraft YouTubers). It was very exciting, but every race was on the same map, and the winning team had completely perfected a winning strategy. Reddit is gearing up for a new tournament, with i think 9 maps in random rotation, all made by different people. If you get the chance, watch the tournament videos when they get posted (or see the live streams when they happen). Its very exciting.

A question about texture packs.
I downloaded some [texture packs] from Planet Minecraft.
I also downloaded MCPatcher, and used it to “patch” Minecraft.
I put the zipped texture packs in the .Minecraft/texturepack folder, and I can select them within the game’s menu screen.
The only ones that work are 64 bit or less. I can’t get the 128 or 256 bit one’s to work. The 64 bit texture packs look “meh”. The default texture pack looks the best so far.
What am I doing wrong or forgetting? Is there a video card setting I need to do?
Does anyone want to recommend a texture pack?
I personally love Steelfeather’s Enchanted texture pack. It’s 32x32. I’ve never used one higher than that, but I’d suggest being sure you’re using the correct version of MCPatcher for the version you’re playing.
Check this texture pack forum. I guarantee the answer to #1 is there. I know, using info from there, that I got a 128 or 256 working, but I forget what I did, and have since reinstalled Minecraft and lost the packs…
Joe
I didn’t know there was more than one version. I saw a link within the texture pack description page to MCPatcher, and I just used that one.
I’ll have to check that forum out. Thanks!
