# Anyone see the play, "The Producers?"

I never saw Mel Brooks’ movie, _The Producers_ (aka “Springtime for Hitler”), or any prior stage productions, but recently attended the play wherein Jason Alexander and Martin Short had lead roles. This was so good, and such a riot!

My wife and I saw the Chicago preview with Nathan Lane and Mathew Broderick. Front row seats (because that’s where they put the wheelchairs). Funniest thing we’ve seen in years. My wife was particularly amused by the “Little Old Lady Land” sequence, with the “tapdancing walkers.”

Great play. Extremely funny. Saw it in San Francisco during the anti-war protests. Very surreal.
I think the real “star” of this play is Mel Brooks. You can see his touches everywhere. I didn’t get a chance to see Nathan Lane do it, but from the CD recording, he must have been brilliant.

I saw it in New York when it first came out with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. It was hilarious, and I was glad it won so many Tonys. Thank God for school field trips.
I loved the line “He was so gay, he almost flew away.”
