Soof-yen
I dunno… He busted out his banjo just for Decatur. ![]()
Most websites say Soof-yon, but I listened closely to him say it several times, and he says Soofy-yon.
I’ve never been but am going to the Saturday show at the Tabernacle in ATL. Does anyone know if he does meet n’ greets? If so what time should I try to be there? I’m excited, although I’ve read mixed reviews. Kinda don’t know what to expect…
My daughter’s pissed because the concert sold out :(. I’ll be looking at Craigslist tonight for some reasonable prices.
I hear you…I paid $80 for my tix, they were originally $35. Made me a bit mad, but I get to see Sufjan, so I’m not thinking about it.
People bought these way back, so good luck!
I ran into one of the horn players after the show and asked the same question, and he said no.
Ahhh, seriously? Why didn’t she buy tickets? I’m pretty sure if Mesa, Arizona sold out, the whole tour probably sold out. I talked to some people who paid $190 per ticket (presumably from a scalper) the day of the show.
At the risk of sounding like Yogi Berra, if this guy’s so popular, how come no one’s heard of him?
I’ve heard of him, but only from being here at the Dope. What’s the deal?
The Chicago show sold out in minutes. Granted, he has a pretty special connection to the area.
I think my friend said it best when I played him for her: “it’s good, but it’s alone music.” The masses want to jam their music while driving around with their friends, or dancing in the club, etc.
Also, how come kids today aren’t into that Mozart guy if he was so great?
Yes, but no one I know has heard of the guy. I absolutely love what I’ve heard of him, but he’s completely and utterly unheard of in my circle of music-appreciating friends.
We didn’t know if we could make it. Plus most shows here don’t sell out, and I just didn’t think he would be that popular around here.
Live and learn!
Shrug, very few people I know have heard of him either. There’s a lot to choose from these days. Most of my friends have also never heard of Warren Zevon or Tom Waits.
Barbarians!
Maybe Sufjan will turn out to be one of those artists who is more popular with the next generation. I always heard that The Doors sold far more albums in the '90s than they did in the '70s, and Sublime is more popular now than they were in the '90s. Sufjan might be ahead of his time.
Plus, when all the people he influences start getting popular, people will go back and start checking him out when they start thinking “who is this Sufjan Stevens guy that all my favorite bands are obsessed with?!”
:(Did you hear that cracking noise?
Quoted for truth: I first heard of him in a Snow Patrol song, then started noticing his name on the boards. This thread is reminding me I need to go find some of his clips to listen to.
Well, I didn’t make the show, but I managed to score a last minute ticket for my daughter from a ticket broker on Craigslist ($40 - face value - 5th row - yay). She’s the much bigger fan anyway.
She had an amazing time. Thanks to everyone who responded here.
Parent of the year!!!
That was THE most amazing show I have EVER seen. I’ve been to a lot of shows. Who ever has not gotten tickets, GO NOW.
