I’ve found an email address for someone in Brazil who might be able to give me some info on the status of the Tucker that was (is) there, but I doubt they’re an English speaker, and I don’t speak Portugese, so I’m hoping that there’s a Doper who can speak it so I’m not forced to use a machine translated message. ---

If you don’t find someone, you may try Spanish instead and sending the initial message in both English and Spanish with an apology for not being able to do it in Portuguese. The first foreign language learned by Brazilians is Spanish (plus even if they don’t speak it, they understand it well in writing), the second English. ---

I can’t believe I missed this thread entirely! I could have actually contributed in a constructive way instead of the usual can’t-believe-he-paid-15-bucks-to-post-crap way. Well, if you ever need other translating, I could do it. Or my brazilian wife (or American, she got her citizenship) ---

**Shecky** , glad to see yet another fan of the Portuguese language and Brazilian women on the board. I searched for a thread I posted a few years ago to link to for your entertainment, but couldn’t find it. I was reading “Cidade de Deus” at the time and was posting some of the more opaque bits of Portuguese, particularly heavy slang and references to Macumba and such, for the Brazilian contingent to decipher. As it turned out, some of the Macumba stuff was opaque to many Brazilians (my wife included). ---

Mmmm… Brasileiras! Muito bom, e a coisa mais gostosa na planeta! Seriously, though. Tucker, if you go, figure which area to go. Rio women are always looking to land a foreigner. Sorry to say it, but after Sao Paulo, Rio’s women are the most shallow. You’re an American, then go down to Curitiba or Porto Alegre. Have blonde hair/blue eyes, go to Natal, Recife or my favorite, Bahia. Minor7flat5, you have a PM. ---

I remember that thread. Some of the slang in that book was probably very specific to those favelas and to that particular time period. My parents lived in Rio for seven years and I have a lot of family in Brazil and I always found Rio to be odd. Too many people in a small area and there is a lot of snobbishness about which neighborhood you live in. ---

There’s a very distinct Rio accent and São Paulo accent. There’s a whole rivalry between the cities, like a “east coast/west coast” kind of thing.
