Off-topic - do you use your Harmony with an aftermarket PS3 remote kit? Or do you have the Logitech Bluetooth setup? And whatever you have, how do you like it?
I’ve got a Harmony 550, and I never set it up for the PS3 - the aftermarket remotes are cheap enough, I just never bothered buying one. But I’m thinking of setting it up soon, since we’ll be using the PS3 more often (CSI, LOST, Dexter, Dead Like Me - so many shows to re-watch or catch up on!).
I have a Harmony 880, which was quite easy to configure with a Nyko IR aftermarket. The only bad thing is that I need to remember to stick a little dongle in the USB every time I’m inserting a movie. So long as I need to keep using the Netflix disc, same plan.
Yeah - I’m just not sure if I want to spend any more money on my internet connection. I doubt I’ll watch more than my once-at-a-time blurays right now. It is good to hear that they base the quality off the connection - they should really pair up with internet providers and advertise that.
Update - today, after several hours of watching Farscape eps and then The Dark Crystal, the Netflix disc stopped fricking working. Just stopped. We tried to get to the Netflix interface from the end of the movie, and got a “Video cannot be played” PS3 error (like when you try to play a video, and the file’s in the wrong format).
So I tried to eject the disc - no dice. I did a hard shutdown, then started up - disc ejected fine. But when I put it back in, nothing. Tried other Blu-Ray discs and PS3 games, and they work fine. I did notice that when you put the Netflix disc in, for a few seconds you can hear the drive motor pulsing, like it’s trying to spin up, but won’t - I can’t hear the same sound with other discs however.
Inspecting the disc, I saw no scratches or fingerprints, but it looks like the center of the disc has begun delaminating! There’s clearly something that looks like an irregularly shaped, mostly round air bubble, and one of the edges overlaps with the very inner tracks of data. I’m surmising that the heat of the PS3 (cause after a few hours, it does indeed get hot) may have caused some problem that made the disc info unreadable, thus the failed spin-up attempts. It’s odd, though - while the PS3 can get quite hot, I have never had heat-related issues, either with the hardware, or the discs.
Anyway, I ordered up a replacement disc online, then called Netflix to report the issue, and see if they’d had any other similar complaints (they haven’t - firsties! I love being a pioneer).
I’ll keep you posted if I have further issues once I get the new disc.
Ok, I’ve got an update - the new disc arrived while I was out of town this week on a trip to SF, and my wife caught up on Farscape. She said after several hours of viewing, the disc (and in turn, the Netflix interface) was working perfectly.
The kids are in the living room as I type this watching Legend of the Seeker, with no issues at all.
So I guess it was just a bunk disc that slipped through QA (phew!).
