It kept things at a mild level, but that’s pretty much it. It seemed to keep me from having big flare ups, but my scalp and face were still covered quite severely. One thing it did help with a lot was my psoriatic arthritis. My knees and one of my shoulders can be quite bad, but were perfect while I was taking methotrexate.
As for side effects, I experienced pretty serious fatigue while taking it. I had a very hard time performing anything more than normal physical tasks. I felt ok most of the time, but if I had to shovel snow or anything like that I could only do so for a brief period of time before having to rest. I didn’t experience any prolonged infections or other illnesses during my time on the drug.
Thank you so much for all the responses, it really helps a lot. I don’t have R/A <yet> but it seems to me like the methotrexate wouldn’t do what I want it to, anyway, so when I finally have had enough, I will consider other options instead.
I’m having a bad flare up right now (and no health insurance, yay!) I do have some money that would be put to good use–is there anything generic? Last time I went to my derma, she told me no, it would probably be years.
I’m so lucky I get it on my face and I’ve managed to kinda beat it down with some heavy duty moisturizers (I’m not shilling for any company, without the benjies).
I’d gotten off diet drinks and was doing just water or tea with no sweetners, so maybe I should go back to it. I’ve never really had a problem with infections, it weirds out my SO how fast I’ll heal from things. I’m worried about the increased cancer risk thing, but I’d take a risk rather than feel like this.
(I am lucky enough to have no history of cancer or tb.)
