# Anyone want an email pen-pal?

Good idea.

I’d prefer someone with similar but not identical interests but not someone whose main interest lie in politics or world events. I don’t really keep up on them. And no sports. I hate sports and don’t care about them in the least.

Otherwise, anyone of any age or gender is pretty much welcome.

I heartily agree. I’d love to talk with someone who lives in another country (other than the US, that is), doesn’t watch tons of TV (recommend a good movie!) or can recommend some new music for me to listen to (I’m in a Dixie Chicks rut). I don’t necessarily need to email with another suburban mom-type, although I’m open to anyone who wants to chat.

I’m pretty much willing to talk to any one, similar interest or no. Except for sports. I like hockey, but, as a Canadian, that’s not saying much. I watch the occasional game, and I know the rules. My basic sports discussions script:

Did you watch the game last night?

It was [good/not too bad/horrible]

Their [defense/forward/goalie] was [good/not too bad/horrible]

I hope the make the [playoffs/Stanley Cup]

```

After that, uncomfortable silences abound.

Not sure what you like but some suggestions that I’ve seen lately are: _Garden State_, _Big Fish_, _Love Actually_, _Pirates of the Carribean_, and _Maria Full of Grace_.

For music, I suggest Frou Frou and Zero 7.

Oh, what the heck. I tend to prefer chat programs, but they distract me too much from work, so I rarely keep 'em running while I’m at the office. And when I’m home, I rarely have time to chat. So, yeah, email may just be the way to do it.

Male, 36 (Yikes! When the hell did that happen?!). Married for six years. Artist, working in the game industry. Recently transplanted from my home state of Texas to the frozen north of Oregon. I’m kinda shy in person, so I haven’t really made any friends here, yet.

Three dogs, each extremely well-trained and a lot of fun to be around. Recently, I’ve gotten into skiing, but I also really like to hike, camp, kayak, bike- that sort of thing. Anything to keep my ass from slowly assuming the shape of my office chair.

Lessee… shaved head, goatee (which ranges from brown to red, generally), blue eyes, earring in left ear. I tend to like techno, and I shy away from rap or country.

Big fan of Sci-fi. I watch way too many movies and read way too many books. I tend to read biology and science books for fun. I can raise one eyebrow, and I’ve been hit by lightning twice. If it’s useless knowledge, odds are I know it.

As for who to talk to… um… **DeadlyAccurate** is a gamer, I notice… and **LifeonWry** is an artist… and I like **AwSnappity** ’s name. But really, I’m open to just about anyone.

I’m a 26-year-old (as of this Friday) male. Degree in accounting and currently slaving away in a retail job looking for better. No SO, no children, nor prospects of either.

I like Trek (all of it, but DS9 best), human languages, the world of Tolkien, talky movies where nothing happens except the study of the human condition, Neal Stephenson’s fiction, Margaret Cho, most of NBC’s wretchedly predictable Thursday night sitcoms, Aimee Mann, Shakira, Juanes, bad dance music, and lot of other stuff. I spent too much time in the world of computer science to be completely normal, but I’ve left a lot of it behind.

I’d like a penpal who speaks (well, writes) either Spanish or German in addition to English, because I’m learning the first and the second is rusty and I could use the practice. And I also think that handwritten letters would be nice.

Little do you know - I was going to send you an email tomorrow morning! Lucky you! Your first post sounded interesting, and I had a couple of questions for you.  
I have to run now (time to start the bedtime rituals), but I have to reply quickly.  
I have an 8-year-old son; therefore, I’ve seen _PotC_ about 80 gazillion times. Okay, I just like watching it for Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, but, yeah, I like that one.  
I’ve seen _Love Actually_, actually. It was good, too.  
I’m waiting for _Garden State_ to come on cable. That one looks good.

First of all, my humblest apologies to **congodwarf**. Apparently no one needs to pick me unless they’re interested in someone with the early stages of senility. My overlong individual commentary on the newbies: **Reeder** is here?? I think we should observe a hushed moment of silence. Ah, the coming together power of the interweb. Isn’t it a beautiful sight to behold? Then there’s **Lightnin’** with the goatee. Oh my. Not to mention, who can’t appreciate an artist? (And to think, we’ve netted more than one!) Bringing up the caboose (I just can’t help but to have my figurative language all over the place – pirates and overtaking the world plus the kitchen sink – again, what can I say? stream-of-blabbered thought seems to be my forte’) is **Bambi**. Who I promise not to make any Thumper jokes to. Oooh and that’s so difficult. 🙂 I’m about tempted to pick you too, because I’m an etymology nut (not much emphasis on that last part) to a tiny degree, but alas I fail the other criteria because my little bit of Spanish is usually contained these days to menus.

Therefore I’m still holding out (again, hehehe :p) on making any conclusions. Although, I _do_ have my one eye on a potential or so. Maybe I should go consult my non-existent crystal ball of what the fates desire. Or, I’ll simply hope someone wants me too.

I’m 22 and female, have a degree in marketing, trying to get my pre-reqs to get into pharmacy school, and am a secret lover in urban life and asian culture. but I BELONG in new york/bangkok/amsterdam/tokyo! I live with my sister, roommate who is an OU pom and currently in Miami for “the big game” and our three cats.

I probably won’t be able to make intelligent contributions to any chat about sports either, but movies and music I can do. And I am always interested to learn more about the fascinating subject of zoology/biology.
