So last night I got home late, turned on the TV, and found (as usual) nothing good on. But there was a show on Bravo called “Showdog Moms and Dads.” _Oh yeah,_ I thought _that looked kinda interesting._

Initial impression: amusing, but did Bravo not seek out the most sterotypical dog-show types in existence? The stereotypical gay couple dressing their chihuahua and toy whatever-it-was in feather boas; the bratty 10-year-old and his pushy, overdemanding mother; the woman who doesn’t question whether she loves her husband or her weimaraner more because “there are some questions I don’t want to know the answer to.” The couple with the greyhounds seemed the most “normal,” but then I missed the beginning of the show and was trying to make dinner during the commercial breaks, so maybe I missed something. I’m disappointed that there wasn’t anyone who didn’t seem like a character from [“Best in Show.”](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0218839/) Or are all showdog people really this bad? What did other people think of the show?

I didn’t see it, but short answer: YES!

(I know that’s an awful wide brush I’m using, but it’s mostly true.)

Seconded.

As someone who shows dogs…

Absolutely not. There are plenty of people involved with dog shows who aren’t completely obsessed dogs.

Speaking of brushes… I loved the scene where the mom was brushing her dog, then stopped to talk to the camera while using the same brush now on her own hair.

Anybody watch last night’s episode? More trainwrecky goodness. I’m still waiting for a likeable owner to emerge from all of this.

A couple things:

1)I can’t believe that Chalcy and the dog’s owner get paid $500.00 to entertain a party. The owner almost seems ready to explode from excitement whenever she’s talking too.

2)The whippet owners. The man’s personality just _really_ grates on me. I’m not sure why, maybe it’s that he seems really cocky.

3)Speaking of cocky, I couldn’t stop snickering about the dog that seemed to attack genatalia. I know, immature, but the woman talking about how her dog tries to bite her vagina was a bit too much.

4)The gay couple’s argument in the car about money. Talk about a whole lot of cluelessness compacted into a car. Just pay the mom back and she’ll stop asking for the money. Renegging on an agreement might have the person a little more concerned about getting their money back. If money ain’t such a big deal to you, maybe you shouldn’t borrow for it from other people.

5)The mom and the kid. I wonder if she’s going to watch this show sometime and realize that her kid is #2 in line after the dogs. It was sooo obvious he was desperate for attention when he was looking for his tooth.

As someone who used to show dogs, both bench and field, amen. I can’t watch the show for more than about ten minutes at a time, and the whole time I wonder where on earth they dredge these people up from. Yes, there’s a small percentage of whackos amongst the dog show crowd - and the 98% that remain are the first to make fun of that 2% - but I’ve never encountered anyone as strange or ill as the people on that show.
