That one sounded like Keane-lite. And I guess the horrifying phrase “Keane lite” tells you all you need to know about Eurovision. ---

Azerbaijan- not as good as last year (Drip drop), but not bad. Looks like a significant proportion of the GDP went on white chiffon this year. Slovenia, meanwhile, have splashed out on chains and pleather. ---

I suppose that after that nasty volcano and the wipeout of the banking system, Iceland wanted to show us they are really just nice harmless folks… And can they just keep the Spanish singer onscreen the rest of the show? ---

The between-songs bits are growing on me. Quite clever how they’ve made the shots of Dusseldorf look like Legoland or something, with that narrow depth of focus. ---

BTW Puerto Rico gets this on the RTE feed and the Spanish announcer keeps talking over everything else on the show. Enthusiastic but distracting at times. ---
